I ask because my first scenario in my January 1962 timeline imagines a prepared defense by the 14th Cav reinforced by a mech battle group defending Bad Neustadt from a thrust from Meinigen.

According to the December 1961 station list I have V Corps had at his disposal 9 battalions of artillery: 6 155MM SP, 1 155MM towed, and 2 8" SP guns to support two infantry and one armor division, plus the 14th Cav.

V Corps commander plans suppose a major thrust towards Alsfeld through Bad Hersfeld, a secondary play from Meinigen towards Bad Neustadt, and holding/diversion effort through Shluctern towards Gelnhausen.

Does the Meinigen axis have a battalion or two of 155? And a battery or two of 8"?

Otherwise, I am close to wrapping this up an posting a final version.

I can't say that this scenario is "play balanced." It's more of a problem to deal with.

If it were me planning the corp arty I'd go with 1x 155mm SP with each division, a 2nd 155mm SP with both the primary & secondary axis units, the towed 155mm and 1x 15mm SP along with the 2x 8" SP assigned to deep strike/CB/point of penetration support

While 3rd ID was still part of V Corps at that time I have to guess that she would have received support from VII Corps which had 11 battalions of Arty.

Compared the station list info to what I could find at http://www.usarmygermany.com/ and it turns out V Corps had 6 8" M55 SP, 1 155MM M53 SP, 1 155 towed, 1 280mm Atomic Annie. VII Corps had 7 8" M55 SP, 3 155MM M53 SP. So I think VII corps can afford to lend the 2/28th 155 at Bad Kissengen and the 2/35th 8" at Wertheim, and leave V Corps his battalions to support the 8th ID and 3rd AD.

So now I get to create an M55 an M65. [:)]
