A few general questions

I know that the information is probably in the manual, but I have just a few questions about HQs and generals.

1. Is it possible to assign either Marshall, Brooke or even Monty to command SHAEF?

2. Do the army group HQs arrive as reinforcements, or can they be created by the player?

3. Is it possible, as Monty desired, to create a ground force commander, between SHAEF and the army group HQs, for the supervision of all of the army groups? I imagine there may be no need for this.

4. Are there any means to replicate "Fortitude," or is deception factored into the game in the abstract?

Thanks -- I will be reading the manual thoroughly, but I thought someone might be able to provide an answer or two, here.

1. Yes
2. They arrive as reinforcements - WitW has no unit creation.
3. No - and you are correct there is no need - although if your plans don't work then blame Monty - if you consider yourself perfect you are Monty
4. No - there is no Fortitude or deception.

Still on the fence to buy. But looks great so far.

...is the ground game {movement/combat}concept for WitW same as WitE? Any improvements, changes..?

cheers

It's similar - big changes are the new logistics system and combat delay which imposes additional MPs on hexes where combat has occurred. Airborne and Amphibious Ops are completely new.

Thanks RL -- this is all good news. I would like to try Brooke or Marshall as SHAEF commander at least once, just for the sake of variety. I think that either of them would have been more than satisfactory in that role. I admire Eisenhower greatly, but I think the other two had more "grip" over things in general.

Just a quick question from me and this looks like a reasonable place to put it. I'm trying the Husky scenario and so far concentrating mainly on air directives and setting my own air missions. I've set up a mission but must be doing something wrong because whenever I change tabs (i.e from ground attack to air sup) the mission is gone when I go back to the tab I created the mission in - but I notice there don't seem to be pilot names, just id nos. Was there no way to get historical and/or random names in the game? Bombing the Reich has them.

Really enjoying playing even though there's so much to learn... I can see it's going to be fascinating to play once I have some idea of the rules.

We haven't done names...yet.

Glad to infer from your reply, Red Lancer, that you hope to add them. They do add to the immersion and it's fun tracking pilots throughout the war.

Wow, pilot names would be great. A massive research (and input) task, I imagine. Anything we users can help with?

I have another question - really getting into this but I've suddenly realised I don't understand a key concept... how do I do a hasty attack and how do I do a deliberate attack? I'm just right clicking to attack at the moment, but that doesn't seem to be using adjacent units?

Ps, Grotius, WitP has pilot names, so does BtR - I'm surprised WitW doesn't, but glad there's a chance they will be added

For deliberate, hold the shift key down and mouse over all the hexes you want to bring units into the combat. They come up on the right where you can toggle them on or off, then shift right click on the target hex.

You are making hasty attacks if not holding the shift key.

Ah, that answers one of my questions now :)

I know I should read the manual but no time as I work away from Monday and no time to play till next weekend. Just wanna go to war tonight and have some fun tinkering with the bits and bots

Thanks Joel, putting that into effect got me an allied minor victory on normal difficulty in Husky. I have to say Husky is the perfect tutorial. Amphib, land and air on a small island is a great setting to learn the game.

There's still a huge learning curve ahead for me but I'm very impressed with this game so far. The amount of thought that's gone into the design of WitW is evident on every screen and in every turn resolution and it is very addictive to play!

Very glad you are having fun, wait until you get to the medium scenarios and finally the grand campaign. The strategic choices just keep getting more interesting.

Yep, I know WiTP does. But are the WITP names all historical? I seem to recall some pilots with names like J. Billings, G. Grigsby and E. Rutins. :) Then again, I may be thinking of Uncommon Valour, the predecessor to the original WITP.

I haven't played BtR. Now that I'm reveling in the air war in this game, I'm thinking I need to buy BtR at some point.

BtR used historical names where possible and for those they didn't know, they filled in with random names or even names of people from the forum (I'm in as a Hurricane Pilot in 87 Squadron) Not sure about WitP but I assume similar process

hello, one question:

can I decide the production like the japanese in witp for example? I have read the manual and i don't think so, but i'm not sure.

Could you explain me how I can intervene in the production?

thanks!

You cannot plan the production in this game.

You can intervene with Axis production as the Allies through the strategic bombing campaign. [:)]

You can intervene indirectly, can't you, by designating which facilities should be the priority for repair. E.g., you may have a damaged number of armaments and oil factories, and you might choose to prioritize repair of one over the other. At least, I thought I read that in the manual.
