No plane replacements (supply - 4)?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

No plane replacements (supply - 4)?

Post by jzardos »

Ok, struggling again with some aspects of the game. No idea why I have AG that don't see to get any planes. Seems all is in order to get replacement planes.

- on AB with supplt priority 4
- no issues with rail
- plenty of plane type in pool > 100

Sometimes I think the logistics/replacement stuff is just to over-complicated for game. Trying to do too much with AI algorithms . Just let player always have manaul ability to add planes if applicable. This would then be a non-issue!

Please tell me I'm just missing a setting and this is not another bug.

thanks

Try setting replacements to priority.

I believe supplies do not include aircraft.

ok, I found it on top of window I posted image on. But still, would think 'Normal' replacement level would have sent some of the 140+ planes in the pool???

errr, I thinjk the 'Replacements' link is for pilots and not aircraft. Since one of the options is 'Trained Pilots'

Manual is really no help here, which is unfortunate.

I did find this, but there is no 20.5.5 .. which makes me sad.

"The player can set the pilot and
aircraft replacement priority in the air group unit detail
window, to include assigning only trained pilots (20.5.5).
Pilots can be also be manually added to an air group unit
in the unit detail window, both individually and multiple
pilots up to the maximum ready value."

20.6.2. AIRCRAFT AND PILOT REPLACEMENTS

Aircraft Replacements: Air group units may receive replacement aircraft during the replacement segment.

ok thanks. Still by this section, I should have received some planes for that 0 plane AG. We'll see what happens next turn with Replacements set to 'Priority'

In a case like this, always useful to post a save so we can see the situation and one before the logistics phase and telling us the unit that you think is getting shorted so we can duplicate it if it seems there might be a problem. AFAIK, supply priorities don't have any impact on the aircraft replacements. It's possible depending on sequencing that you don't have that many a/c in the pool as that could be the turn's production which isn't immediately available (that a/c has a high production in 43), but I'm just guessing without a save.

The thing is that production happens after the air unit replacement. Since G-6 have ~135 in 1943. Taking into account some possible swapping, it looks that you had no planes in the pool. Try to set it to priority as was suggested.

You still may send a save to 2by3@2by3games.com . I'm planning to improve aircraft replacement routines within the same priority.

I just found out that some of my air bases had their TOE set at 1%. I am fairly certain that I set them to 100% before. I'm not sure if this impacts replacements, but it sure impacts repairing.

There is nowhere near enough manpower to set airbases to 100%. Make sure after you make any TO&E setting changes to select airbases only and give a setting of -1. That puts them all on auto and they'll only draw as much manpower as they need for the air groups currently based at the base.
