So, I came across an abandoned station and the dialog box popped up which prompted me to investigate it or leave it alone. I accidentally clicked leave it alone and now I cannot get that dialog box to come back nor can I figure out a way to investigate it.

Have I permanently lost the opportunity to investigate it or is there some way I can coax the dialog box into returning?

Have you tried control click on the station ? It opens up a drop down menu, with usually a lot of options. Maybe "investigate" station would be there.

edit : select your ship (explorer for instance), then control RIGHT click over the station, is what I meant
