Need help with amphibious invasions

Basically I suck at invasions - and my opponent is getting a free ride in Europe in early 1944 because of it!

I have tried various styles - multiple units hitting 1 hex, 1 unit hitting each of several hexes - always with as much air support as possible - many units on (s) if attacking multiple hexes, or all directly attack a single hex.

I guess I have about a 50% success rate - but failures can be horrendously expensive with divisions lost stuck at sea and/or isolated on the beaches - my last attempt in Sth France cost 4 US infantry divisions :/

Do any of the pro's have any tips how to do better??

Blast him for a couple rounds with every plane and ship, then 'Ignore Losses' onto the beaches !!

It really shows how lucky the Allies were to get ashore when they did, I think.

Hope you don't mind i'm posting here [:)]

Since the invasion is over, from my point of view :

- Surprise is necessary, your staging area in the Corsica give me a hint there will be an invasion somewhere, and fortunately i guessed correctly : Southern France. When your invasion hit, i already have a full corps railed to location, ready to disembark and jump to action.
- My defenders are still in fortified status with 100% readiness /150% supply. As mentioned above, you should bombard it first to de-fortify the defender and hurt it somewhat.

Also, CMIIW but airborne units if reconstitute lose the capability for airborne operation.
