Assigning leaders to divisions

In checking my divisions in Italy (Nov. '43), I've noticed that a few have no leaders. I cannot assign leaders out of the available pool. Is there a way to do this? I didn't check for leader casualties, but I thought that a new general would be assigned automatically after a loss. I checked the manual, but did not find an answer.

Thanks to everyone here for your answers and comments since the game's release. These forums are invaluable.

You can't assign leaders to divisions - only corps and higher.

Trey,

Thanks. I nominate myself for Dolt of the Day -- I went back and saw that divisions do not have leaders. I swore they did when I posted my question.

In a way it would be nice if you could assign leaders to divisions. Especially how leaders get promoted it wouldn't be like WITP where a division leader would stay the same rank the entire war (MGEN) yet still be able to command an army or corps.

Still this is nice as it is.
