War in the West will not let me delete existing "saved" games.

Can you provide more information? What happens when you use the delete save button from the save game screen? I just tried it and it worked for me.

If the game was installed in c:\program files\ or c:\program files (86)\, then it may be a windows access problem as windows does not like you to delete files unless you are an administrator, or can prompt the consent dialogue.

I'm not actually even seeing a button to delete a file. Just the load button. Default installation directory. Not really an issue for me as I'll just use the filesystem but it is odd.

ah. You can delete inside folders in the save folder, but not in the (root) save folder itself.

Where is the delete saved game button?

Load a game, go to Administration tab, click on floppy disk icon (or Shift-S) and you have the option to delete single saves.
It may be easier if you navigate with the windows explorer to the game installation folder, saves are in \dat\save subfolders, usually in extra subfolders with standard or user-defined names.
