This is My OOB for the axis defence of Italy for the first couple of turns:

From Axis turn 1:
Army Group C, with the
XIV Panzer corps:
Herman Goering Panzer division - move it from 6th Ita Army to XIV Panzer corps
Schmalz PZGre Bn - move it from 6th Ita Army to XIV Panzer corps
15th PzGre Division - move it from 6th Ita Army to XIV Panzer corps
16th Panzer Div
29th Panzer Division
90th PzGren Division - Remove it from Sardinia ASAP and bring it to mainland Ita.
3rd PzGren division

Put this corp with 4 supply priority.

Turn 3:
Add the volga and georgian Inf battalions to Army Group C

turn 5:
Bring the I SS Panzer corps and help distribute the unit bloat from XIV Panzer corps
Bring the Ost, Turkistani, North Caucasus and Armenian Brigades into Army Group C
Bring the LXXIV Corps and add it to Army Group C

turn 6:
Bring the 12th SS PzGren Div and add it to I SS Panzer corps
Add the 2 new arrival infantry divisions into LXXIV Corps

turn 7:
Put the newly arrived arrive 10th Army under Army Group C
Put the LXXIV, SS Panzer and the XIV Panzer into the newly arrived 10th Army
Add the 3 new infantry Divisions into LXXIV Corps
Attach the infantry brigades from the Army Group C into the inf divisions of LXXIV Corps

Edit: I also add alot of SUS that are sitting in Northern France, mainly the Nashorns, the Pioneers, the Construction teams and a MG battalion. All the SUs added up, it should be around 5 or 6 CV worth of SUs.

Jajusha do you bring in mountain units? I like those better than bringing in panzers, but maybe they are better in the long run.

Panzers make a good reserve force until they're needed elsewhere (spring '44)

I don't stick then on the front but they're useful for the inevitable invasion as containment.

I kind of want mules and mortars in the mountains of Italy more than panthers and halftracks, but I can see where they may be useful if you are attacking some.

@Baelfiin, good point, but i think Axis has only 1 mountain division available at start? I think its in SE France, and counting for Garisson VPs, i really don't like giving the Allies free VP, but i think i'll move one of those regular inf divisions Axis gets at turn 6 or 7 and swap them for the mountain ones next chance i get.

I'm using my panzers in Italy to pound any invasion beach, and pound it hard. This is because:
-You have a positive pool of Panzer IV and Panther, no use in keeping them in the garage till 44.
-GC VP do not count axis loses, and give the allied player an extra 1/3rd penalty for any BR casualties (meaning, if you see Br divisions, HIT THEM). There is really no other chance to hit the Allies hard besides the 43 landing in Italy.
-Hit them in the beaches, and if you win, they will fight to bitter end, resulting in massive, massive casualties on the Allied side.
-Landing hexes are always "panzer land", no terrain penalty for Arm combat.

These Panzer (and 800 Strat bombers) (and 200 stukas) (and 200 fighter-bombers ... :p) and some good leadership rolls and you can severely punish any hasty invasion (as the human players are loving to mount invasion with Brigades for the faster preparation).

I guess im scared of exposing my panzerwaffe to the allied air force 8)
I didn't think about brigade sized landings, those would be like popcorn to eat up.
7 ish mountain units in EFB. I like to try to bring them west 2 or 3 at a time.
It really proves the point that invading without aircover can get you hurt as the allies.

I think there will be opportunities to beat on the allies in france, especially in a mobile situation.

I do this same but I send infantry divisions to eastern front and bring some SS mountain divisions from eastern front to Italy. There is 6 german mountain divisions and 2 german SS mountain divisions figting at eastern front. You could easily replace them with normal infantry divisions without eastern front suffering too much.

But this only work if you have eastern front control turned on.

The Allied AFs in the Med are not able to project the Interdiction zones that they can in the ETO. A large portion of that is the terrain - mountains and ground interdiction do not seem to mix well. The Allied Tactical AF does not have the tactical bombing abilities that the 9th USAAF and 2nd RAF Tactical AF have.

There are a lot of tac bombers in England in 1943 with nothing to do. In my game with AWG after I figured out to bring them down they starting causing major havoc with his tanks. The Typhoons with rockets especially.
