ASW air question

Is it confirmed that the ASW mission uses weapons only from extended range slots?
The idea was to have patrol aircraft without weapons at extended range to maximize its value and the normal range would be the one for ops with weapons.
With positive confirmation obviously this can't be done since attacking submarines would be impossible.
