US Army IX Corps: The Reason Why?

This is a notice that I am working on completing the HQ review. It basically is
an FYI for anyone who mod's AE - as something you may wish to change. However,
it also explains the delay in the "final" form of the file set: I have found numbers of issues of every sort (even some I my self created) which need review in the area of HQ.

In this case, IX Corps is shown as a permanently restricted unit which must withdraw by 440630. This comes from Stock Scenario 1. Never mind this corps never left the theater and it was a major element in first line for Operation Olympic! Even more curiously, Stock Scenario 14 (Downfall: The End) simply omits it entirely (honoring the withdraw data I guess). This is location slot 153. By the time RHS Scenario 106 starts (27 January 1945) it is on Leyte - almost certainly at Tacloban - planning for Olympic. It DID leave Conus (specifically Fort Lewis, Washington) in 1944 - first for Hawaii - then to Leyte.

quote
IX Corps was a corps of the United States Army. For most of its operational history, IX Corps was headquartered in or around Japan and subordinate to US Army commands in the Far East.

Created following World War I, the corps was not activated for use until just before World War II almost 20 years later. The corps spent most of World War II in charge of defenses on the West Coast of the United States, before moving to Hawaii and Leyte to plan and organize operations for US forces advancing across the Pacific. Following the end of the war, IX Corps participated in the occupation of mainland Japan.

It seems that stock used two different slots for IX Corps. 199 has the unit
appearing in the same place, with the same commander, but no longer restricted.
The reason, it seems, was to insure the Corps did not deploy overseas before 1944.
The new unit still has no supplies, nor planning hex, no fatigue or disruption level -
but it is assigned to the Pacific Fleet - which isn't correct but at least allows it to move.

This solution requires the use of two different rare HQ slots, so modders may still wish to go over to using only the original slot. In my view, giving IX corps "temporary restricted" status would solve the problem - it would be restricted but players could buy their way out of it. Not that this is much of a solution if you use stock political points - there are so few players rarely can afford to change land unit commands - and numbers of historical (never mind reasonable) options simply are impossible. But if you combine it with a more generous pp allowance, it would work well.

Cid, I was looking at this thismorning and saw the 2 slots. The reasoning does sound right....GP

The reasoning is not right in the context of how the AE game system uses HQs. Just because wikipoedia says something is no indication as to how it is implemented in the AE system.

First, HQ slots are not rare. Any LCU slot can be used for an HQ unit. There are thousands of slots, for each side, that are HQ capable.

IX Corps is restricted permanent for a reason in the early period. It has assigned units that are also restricted permanent, and are intended to remain so. Making IX Corps restricted temp would be a travesty far beyond the 12th Air Div cheat that players currently use to move the Kwantung Army. The OP does not understand the workings of the HQ system nor the implications of making them “wikipoedia pretty”.

An LCU cannot “upgrade” from its original “restriction” status. It must withdraw and then come back with different data. Thus it is with IX Corps. I know you are working with John 3rd on his RA mods, so I thought it best to give you an extreme caution about doing this. If you wish technical details, I’m only a PM away.
