Battle Plan designing

This is my foray into the realm of war gaming in a community. I have enjoyed military games most my young and adult life in single player but now I need my fix in a community both learning and when the time comes helping.

I want to take the jpegs created by TOAW3 and use a graphical editor to to draw my ideas to better ask questions and give my thoughts. What software can you suggest to use to draw arrows for battle flow and pushes as well lines to define battle lines?

Sorry after further reading and research I have found a piece of software called snagit. It does what I want and simple without having to earn a certificate to feel qualified to use it.[:)]

Now I will post some strategic questions to the initiated.

I googled Snagit and found a website that offered it for free and downloaded it. Thanks for the tip.

Ask your questions by all means. There are those of us who have been playing for a long time now and have run into a lot of
things and have picked up all kinds of tips and tricks and we'd be more than happy to answer your question(s).

MS paint should work on PC. Honestly Preview on mac could work too. It has arrows, textboxes and circles, which is pretty much all you need. Personally I'd love some sort of battle plan drawing board in game kind of like Hearts of Iron

Regarding AAR, I published a tutorial - here:

As an alternative, I print the map, sometimes in multiple section so they are bigger, tape them together on a large piece of cardboard, cover it with a piece of plexiglass and draw to my heart's content with a grease pencil.

Thank God I'm not the only one who does this...

If all you need it for is your own planning, something simple and free-form like Paint is great. I can see how you'd want something more advanced if you were trying to make a strategic map for an AAR- though I just use Paint for this as well.

Holy moly. I do not have the room in my tiny flat to do this.

Back when I was at university, I had a map of North America on the wall and would stare at it while thinking about my next Fall Grau turn.
