Well decided to start an AAR on my game with Dan… we are playing scenario 2 with historical first turn me as Allies. The current date is 12th December 1941. And already we had some interesting stuff happening.

Decided to keep track of my submarines achievements ... but they are pitiful ... i lost one Dutch sub off the coast of Malaya and in turn one S-class torpedoed 2 DMS named W-15 and W-16 off Appari. I send all of my Manila subs on Patrol with S-class still have their home port set as Manila while there rest is set to Soreboja... Dutch subs are cruising off Malaya, Vietnam and North Borneo with 2 additional subs off east Celebes while S-class subs with some newer submarines patrol of N Luzon and S Formosa with few sent to patrol around Baelobab and off the coast of Vietnam.
PacFleet subs are sent to patrol around Caroline Islands.

China/Burma/India

Well nothing new in china typical allied start with a capture of Inchang... i have no clue how to play in china so i will stay on the defensive and will try to react on Dan actions. In India i set all combat units to R&R and I’m building up key bases while setting up some convoys to transfer fuel and supply to Australia. Burma... well had a nasty surprise when on turn one enemy bombers hit Rangoon... well send in the AVG and it held its own with around 20 enemy bombers killed and some fighters too... for trivial losses to AVG. I’m planning to reinforce Burma with 2 Indian brigades already loaded onto ships with AVG it should be possible to get them safely into harbour... The goal is to defend Burma as long as possible.

Malaya

Khota Bharu fell as usual... Alor Star and Georgetown are being bombed... and my TB counter attack on enemy fleet of Khota Bharu ended in a Turkey shoot... ohh and POW and Repulse bought it on turn one... So I’m now contemplating what to do... I’m tempted to try to rush 18th British Division into Singapore to force my opponent into sending more troops to Malaya... also i have a supply line set up with small AKL’s transporting supply from Palambang to Singapore so my troops will not run out of supply. I mined Mersing but im out of mines now... also last turn Dan bombarded Kuantan with his BB’s wonder if this means invasion is in the plans.

Philippines

Now this was really interesting... enemy air strikes on turn one didn’t do much damage... so i send all my P-40’s to Manila on turn two and set them on 100% CAP... and could not stop laughing seeing enemy Betty’s and Nell’s going in piecemeal with minimal escort... off course Zero sweep showed up but after i shoot down like 40 Nell’s/Betty’s... together with AVG that gives more than 60 Betty’s/Nell’s dead with their experienced pilots. Dan landed in Vigan and Appari but no landing in Legaspi took place... now i spotted enemy landing TF heading into the hex just E of Manila... Well my plan is simple i set all of my surviving fighters to strafe this TF and maybe i can inflict some damage. I have 53 P-40’s B/E’s operational and 30 B-17’s off course i will evacuate them into the DEI when i will be able to build up PP’s. My ground defense plan is simple move to Batan and try to hold out there... have over 10K supply en route on fast transport ships. The only stop gap will be Clark field since Dan is not bombing it im able to build up fort’s there... Manila will not be defended. Japanese landing’s took place in Davao... Houston and friends came to visit and shoot it up but not before 5k jap troops landed on the island.

DEI

Dan invaded NE Borneo Miri/Brunei/Jesselton all fell to the Japanese... i wanted to send Houston with friends against those landings... but decided against it... as it turned out it was a good decision since enemy landing’s were covered by at least 3 enemy CA’s and I’m not betting on my chances with fighting them. Meanwhile i was able to mine Kuching also send in some subs to the area. Right now i have 3 surface TF’s guarding the DEI in Palambang 2 combined Dutch/UK TF’s with CL’s and DD’s and between Celebes and Borneo Houston with friends... also i send all available ships from Ceylon and Australia to the DEI... will force Dan to send in the KB. (Yes that means CV Hermes will be fighting to).
Dan invaded Sorong on New Guinea but my planes flying from Menado and Ambon hit some of his transports. Also i spotted enemy TF heading for Menado where 4 American DD’s are waiting in ambush . DEI will fall eventually but i will take as many of Dan ships and planes with my as possible.
I’m trying to take as much fuel as possible from the DEI to Australia.

Australia/New Zeland

Nothing interesting will try to send in the 2nd Aussie Division to Port Moresby and will build up east coast bases.

Pacific

Well Dan was lucky it was the best PH raid results i ever seen... 3 BB’s sunk in the attack... well now KB is sitting south of Midway... and i don’t know why... also Wake was not invaded so i quickly loaded up some supply and a marine defence bn and send it around KB in the direction of Wake if im able to unload it then Dan will have to mount a serious effort to capture it i also send some minelayers to Wake to mine the atoll... I will reinforce the island defences and will supply all those scattered bases. I was able to scrap together maybe a division worth of troops from the West Coast and will send them to New Caledonia to build up bases there. Also will mass my CV’s in PH and when KB sail’s to the DEI will raid the Caroline Island Bases and sink as many enemy shipping as possible.

12th December 1941

Forgot to mention that i spent all my PP’s to change sub drivers on every sub In Manila to more aggressive ones… Today 3 enemy ships were torpedoed... Ryujo Maru, Youzan Maru and Karachi Maru... i will check if any of them sunk but i need my turn for that. Also it looks like another Dutch Sub got Deptcharged...

China/Burma/India

Heavy jap air attacks on Moulmein... im pulling all troops to Pegu to send up a defensive line also my troop transports are getting near Rangoon soon i will need to fly LRCAP over them to allow them to enter the harbour.

Malaya

Heavy Air attacks on Alor Star and my troops moving from Khota Bharu... conducted mostly by IJA bombers... will try to ambush them with my buffalo’s.

DEI

Air attacks over Miri meet Zero’s so its time to drop air attacks on Japanese shipping there... also 2 my ML bought it near Kuching hit by a large jap CA force... but on the bright side Kumano took a mine hit... will set my surface fleet on alert in case enemy plans to land there. It look’s like action off davao forced my opponent to scrap Menado invasion. So much better for me Aussi CA’s are few days off the area. They will team up with Asiatic fleet surface assets and i will have some more hitting power in the area. Also i checked the Houston and friends ammo supply and it turned out i did not used that much in hitting enemy near davao... that gives me a nice opportunity.

Japs landed in Naga and Atimonan... a group of P-35’s hit one landing TF and well look at the results yourself’s...

A good turn for my subs... Shirogane Maru is sunk of Luzon also Brisbane Maru is torpedoed. 3 other Maru’s are hit but torpedo’s are DUD’s... crap wonder when they will start working??:)
Looks like changing the driver’s to aggressive ones helped...


China/Burma/India

3 convoys carrying 2 indian brigades as well as ghurka brigade are close to Rangoon time to set some LR CAP over them and sneak them into harbour... Japanese planes are bombing my troops in Moulmain.

Malaya

Enemy bombers under light escort are bombing my troops in Taiping so i decided to move 3 squadrons of Bufflo’s to intercept its a gamble but it’s worth it. Also some jap bombers are hitting my boy’s moving from khota bahru and those are unescorted so i send a squadron of buffalos to intercept.

DEI

Enemy TF is parked at Kuching so i send in two light cruiser TF’s to intercept... maybe this is premature as i will have additional 5 british cruisers at palambang in two days but the gamble is worth it... if i will be able to inflict some damage maybe Dan will have to divert more assets the area. Still heavy ship traffic off N. Borneo but i can’t bomb them since enemy has Zero’s flying CAP there..

Philippines

Heavy air attacks on Clark and Manila so i decided to pull my fighters to Cayagan as i was running out of places to hide. Mini KB showed up East of Mindanao and Kates sunk two AKL’s off Cayagan carrying supply there... I moved Houston with friends to Sulu sea to have a shoot at enemy ships unloading at Naga. P-40’s are ordered to patrol over the TF so if some unescorted Kate’s show up it will be a nice turkey shoot.

Pacific

KB still loiter around the area between Wake and Midway... wonder why... my transports and mine craft bound for wake are moving around the threat. 2 of my CV’s are at Pearl and Sara should join them shortly... lots of enemy subs are around PH and one of my DD’s got sunk...

My ships carrying reinforcements and supply to Rangoon are close to target send in two squadrons from AVG to fly CAP over them. The ships are ordered to reach Rangoon at full speed... since Dan’s bombers are still attacking ground targets in Mulemein i hope they will reach their destination safely...

DEI
A TF is spotted heading for Menado... but i already have a mixed TF of 7 DD’s and a CL waiting in ambush. The raid of Kuching didn’t produce any results as japs disappeared... well false alarm. Good for me my ships are reinforced by 5 additional British cruisers so i should be able to inflict more damage if Dan decides on Invading Kuching or South Malaya...
Malaya
As predicted my trap worked lost 3 Bufflos for 2 Zeros and 16 Betty’s/Sally’s. In few day’s the convoy carrying 18th Divsion will reach the map and well im sending it to Singers... also moving as much supply to Singapore as possible.

Philippines
More enemy troops land on north Luzon and in Naga... the enemy strength at Atioman is estaminated at 2 inf. Regiments with some support. Dan is in for another surprise as Houston with friends will visit Naga tomorrow i even doubt it was spotted by him on the way in In a case Mini KB is lurking around (i lost track of it) i send some F from Cayagan to fly LR CAP over my ships. Also send in PT’s to attack enemy shipping of Luzon

KB still east of Marshall island’s the longer it stays there the better for me... my reinforcements bound for Wake are still 3-4 day’s out.

BTW can some one explain to me which tender is for what i only know that AS is for subs... what kind of port i need for it to work??:)

I'll be interested to follow your reports. I've found that the subs really aren't worth much before April 42 when they get radar so anything the fleet boats score is gravy. Be careful using Manila/Bataan as the sub home port because you can wind up with them planning their patrols based on close in resupply when, all of a sudden, Manila falls and they don't have enough fuel to make it to Darwin or some other far away place.

John did that all the fleet boat's home base was set to Sorebaja... i got the replay file... and i can only say... THERE WAS SUPPOSE TO BE AN EARTH SHATTERING KAAABOOOM... but that did not happen.

Two task forces carrying reinforcements to Burma are hex away from Rangoon the whole AVG with some Bufflos is set to CAP over Rangoon... i expect lot of air action here. Also i recived some P-38's in some FG's on the Weast Coast... now i have them in the pool and will upgrade one AVG group to fly them:)

Enemy TF spotted E of Kuching heading W maybe its the invasion... in any case 2 strong allied surface groups sortie from Palambang to intercept.

Philippines
Major fleet action imminent! My surface TF centered on Houston didn’t move to NAGA... don’t know why? In any case Mini KB is spotted 2 hexes of Cayagan!!!!! With another TF... maybe invasion? In any case Houston is ordered to intercept... if i’m lucky i might be able to grab the Mini KB. B-17’s from Cayagan are send to Java while around 30 Hudson bombers are sent in... Fighters in Cayagan are set to LR CAP Houston, CAP the base and escort the Hudsons. Also 2 enemy TF’s are spotted heading for Davao... i have 8 Destroyers ordered to go in at Flank speed. It looks like a major sea –air battle will happen tomorrow.

Boise is a goner also Houston and Marblehead will join her soon... it turned out my scouts took enemy BB’s for light carriers... argh... my dd’s heading for Davao killed off a single transport ship but did not reach the port that will happen tomorrow. Planes from Mini KB killed one of my DD’s but still i think i will be able to damage enemy transports unloading on Davao... Also my transport ships carrying supply to Cayagan are close to their destination home enemy ships will be gone before their arrival. Large enemy Surface TF spotted of Miri heading East...

Oh, tough break. It's hard to fight the IJN in late '41 early '42. I find that it's better to wait until you know where the carriers (watching them launch airstrikes is always a good bet that the report is real ) and then be where they aren't.

Sturgeon finished PB Busho Maru also a Dutch sub sunk AKL Hinko Maru of Saigon. My subs are really active... can’t wait for better torps and radar. Also l lost a dutch sub to enemy submarine.
Boats from Pearl reached Marshalls and some are diverted to watch Truk.

Malaya

2 enemy regiments are pushing SW from Khota Bahru. Empty Alor Star was occupied. After careful consideration i decided to pull my forward troops to Malacca further south. I don’t want to be cut of from Singapore by enemy troops from Khota Bahru. Also a Japanese Convoy is spotted on the South China Sea heading W in direction of Kuantan.

DEI

Another fleet action imminent as today my scout planes spotted a convoy heading straight for Kuching... it looks like the cover force is composed from CA’s that were heading for Cayagan but turned back. Few Dutch bombers attacked the force N of Miri but without success. Im sending all available surface assets to intercept. Also another good new’s is the arrival of Australian Navy into the Eastern DEI. It will regroup with the DD force that wrecked enemy transport at Davao in Belikapapan and will move East to interdict enemy further enemy landings. Dan thinks he sunk all my bigger ships of Cayagan so im betting he will be less careful in the Area... B-17 that escaped Cayagan are set to naval attack in Soreboja as they are the only bombers capable to reach Kuching from base other then Singkawang... Off course will move some Blenhaim’s to Singkawang but only when i will be sure that enemy is hitting Kuching. Also 3 squadrons of Banshee’s will arrive in Australia in 3 day’s time they will fly to the DEI.

Philippines

Withdrawal to Bataan/Clark is almost complete. Dan is not bombing Bataan so im able to build up the forts there so he will have a hard time later on... I reassigned all my P-40 PG’s to ABDA so they will leave Mindanao soon to strengthen the DEI. Hudsons will remain to hunt for enemy shipping.

KB spotted W of Wake Island heading NW in direction of Japan... What is Dan up to??? My reinforcements to Wake just arrived and are unloading and the approaches to the atol were mined... will have to send in some additional supply later on but i think Wake just become a tough nut to crack for Dan. Also every Day KB is not in the DEI gives me more time to strengthen the DEI.

December 19th 1941

Well that is odd i unloaded all 3 brigades in Rangoon and no enemy action happend... this is odd.

Malaya

Will make my stand at Kuala Lumpur... enemy TF heading for Kuantan disappeared.. . but heavy air activity over Kuanta... numerous sweeps by enemy fighters and some bomber strikes.

DEI

Major fleet action of N Borneo tomorrow imminent as enemy troops landed at Kuching but before that happened Swordfish TB’s from HMS Hermes attacked the enemy landing forces:

There are 2 enemy surface TF’s in the area one is cantered on CL Sendai the other is composed of 3 – 4 enemy CA’s + some small DD escort my ships heading in number over 10 CA/CL’s and around 20 DD’s... this will be fun. This is strange Dan is not trying to grab Menado or Ambon to limit my movement to Australia. Also why is he landing in Kuching its a lvl 2 airport so no LBA from there... he should have picked Singkawang. B-17 also attacked the invasion forces but missed.


Philippines
Japanese planes are active over Luzon... but my Air forces already Left now i’m transferring my PG’s off to Borneo and then to Java. I think they did a great job as they still hold 56 P-40’s between them (out of starting 91) while active they killed 86 enemy planes.

Pacific
Ok this is the strangest thing until now KB spotted just south of Wake island but weather prevented enemy planes from flying... in any case the mine field is set and the transport’s are unloading troops and supply’s so i should be good... Dan should think about sending KB to DEI ASAP to support operations there not to linger in the middle of the Ocean doing nothing...

December 20th 1941
A quick update… during the night between 19th/20th December 1941 a large naval engagement took place between Singkawang and Kuching on Borneo... 2 ABDA strike forces engaged Japanese Navy craft covering the enemy landings... The first force compromised of 6 CL’s and 5 DD’s engaged a Japanese force of 2 CA’s 2 CL’s and 3 DD’s:

So ABDA TF’s achieved their objective... now they will be sent to rearm and repair on Java i lost a CA, 3x CL and 2 DD’s for a CL... other enemy ships suffered damage and i think this will give a small pause to Dan’s invasions in the area. Also if im lucky the damage inflicted to enemy CA’s will force him to spend some yard time before resuming operations.

Malaya

Enemy planes bombing Georgetown and Taiping... i see another bunch of unescroted bomber so will try to ambush them soon.
The convoy carrying 18th Division is around a 10 days away from Singapore... still thinking if i realy want to send them there... the other potential debarking point is Palambang. Im still sending supply to Sinagapore to sustain a long sige there.
My troops are digging in Kuala Lumpur.

DEI

Nothing new happening... after succesfoul action my ships are heading for Java to rearm. Also entire Australian and New Zeland Navy arrived to the are. They will form Eastern striking force with surviving US DD's and will cover Celebes and South Borneo. While the British and Dutch ships will cover the Western DEI. In about a week i will have A-24's in the DEI and aditional 25 B-17's.

SW Pacific
An infantry division will debark at Port Moresby in 4 days and if im lucky and Rabaul is not taken by the japanese in the next week i will be able to send in another one... also lots of supply unloading at PM. US troops are enroute to Luganville and Numaea to build up bases there.

Pacific

Wake will probably be invaded soon as KB is still in the area, this turn it killed my transports sent to reinforce Wake... but Dan was to late now i have supply and additional marine df bn. on the atoll. other marine units were sent to Midway and Canton Is. If KB remains in the vicinity of Wake i will send my CV's on to australia and DEI... i was planning a raid on the Marshall islands but with KB around that is not an option.

Not much sub actions i was able to torpedo PB Sozan Maru off Saigon but the ship will probably not sink... also few hits scored off N Borneo but it all ended in DUD’s.

China/Burma/India
All quiet except for heavy Japanese air attacks on Moulmein... i don’t expect enemy troops in the theatre for some time.

Malaya
Heavy air attacks on Gorgetown and Taiping i which are empty... lots of jap units spotted at Alor Star... Also enemy troops from Khota Bharu are pushing down the peninsula in direction of Temuloch. Need to send in the bombers to slow them down a bit. Also Dan is getting reckless sending his bombers without escort so i plan to punish him for it. Over 50 P-40’s are moving to Malaya. Also within a week i should be able to send in around 50 B-17’s to bomb Saigon Airfields which are packed with enemy bombers as my recon tells me.

DEI
Small TF reached Kuching but my Blencheim bombers from Palambang hit a transport ship unloading. The 18th Division will be send to Palambang as no BB’s can bombard the base because of it’s location... Crap if i knew the pace of Dan’s advance into the DEI i would sent those 3 brigades that landed in Rangoon to the DEI to bolster Balikapapan and Tarakan. My eastern striking force of CA,4xCL and 10DD’s was sent east to Celebes sea, CVL Hermes is also at sea heading that way. In a week i should have over 30 A-24’s in the area to boost my defences.
Philippines
On the 24th Japanese BB’s bombarded Cebu... i also spotted and attacked another BB force of Leyte. There is also a surface TF and a invasion force probably heading that way... Subs are sent to intercept. Hudsons from Davao were able to attack enemy ships and put a bomb into Kongo Class BB... I can’t understand Dan’s strategy he should have went for Cayagan not Cebu as capturing it dosen’t give him any benefits. My ships from the DEI are standing by to intervene but enemy force consists of at least 4BB’s so i will only move when a occasion presents itself. Also a small TF is heading for Menado... i doubt that this is invasion force.

Pacific
Wake will be invaded tomorrow i hope 2 marine defence bn’s will at least slow him down... also KB is in the area it attacked Wake twice.

SW Pacific
Japanese troops land at Rabaul chasing off an AP loading up some troops... Australian Division is unloading at Port Moresby so at least i was able to pull that one off.

My ground troops are pushed to Temuloh... and first sweep of Oscars show’s up over Singapore...
This means that Kuala Lumpur will be unattainable so i have to pull my troops back to Malacca. I could try to defend Temuloh but im not betting my chances against 2 Japanese infantry rgt’s.
I will try to Ambush enemy planes over Singapore tomorrow.

DEI
Situation is bad... MiniKB is spotted between Celebes and Molucca’s while a invasion TF is a day away from Ambon(at least i think its a day away if two i might get lucky)!!!! My eastern strike force is located close to Menado and will move in! I have to spoil enemy invasion there. Will also send all available ships from Soreboja... but i might be to late. Dutch fighters will fly Cap over eastern strike force while all available bombers will be sent in to attack the enemy!!!! Also around 20 Banshees are at Darwin and can go into action on the 27th Just few more day’s and Palambang will become a tough nut to crack for Dan!

Philippines
Enemy BB’s attacked Cayagan and invasion fleet also arrived in the area! I have over 200 AV in my units at Cayagan so i hope it will hold! Large enemy convoys spotted of Luzon but i do not have anything to throw at them as PT boats went in for no damage to the enemy! The damage to Cayagan is moderate and i did not lose a lot of planes in the Japanese bombardment. Since Mini KB is south of Celebes im sending in the Hermes maybe i will be able to inflict some damage.

Pacific
Wake fell... also im now positively sure KB was split!! The bigger part of it is supporting Wake invasion while a part of KB was spotted N of New Guinea!!! Heading for the DEI... with mini KB already there. Also my CV’s heading to Australia were spotted as my SBD’s sunk a Japanese AMC!

PB Sozan Maru is reported to sink after being hit some time ago... Today Ryoyo Maru is sunk off Kompong Trach. Got a shoot against two Japanese DD’s but the torpedoes failed to detonate...:/

The enemy invasion force is not heading for Ambon... the target is Kendari... Japanese ships didn’t reach the base so i have one more day... also BabyKB is moving into Banda Sea. To be exact it just cleared Moluccas! This means enemy ships are caught between my Eastern Strike force and my TF from Java which is just 4 hexes S of Kendari!!! I have a chance to catch enemy CV’s with my surface fleet!!!!! Bomber attacks on enemy ships proved unsuccessful while enemy Kates managed to Damage one of my CL’s from the eastern strike force... Plan for tomorrow... Banshees move from Darwin to Kendari while my LBA will go to Menado and Ambon. Also both surface groups will be sent to hunt for Baby KB but with retirement allowed and with home base set to Kendari! I really need to kill off his Invasion! Also another CV TF spotted off Borneo!!!! WTF...

Enemy landing at Cayagan went bad... he landed like 100 AV of units... well will Shock attack them!!!!:) Also CVL Hermes will move in with hope of hitting his BB’s which are still at Cayagan! If there were his CV's off Borneo they would attack Hermes as its just 6 hexes away from him...
