And this is a pic of the area southeast of Paris. We all have support units attached, and we rotate in and out to reduce fatigue, but losing another -47vp's this turn doesn't help.

Looks like the Polish armored division is at the tip of the spear. Well done!

It has since I landed. I didn't keep track of my transports before I landed in France and was only getting two infantry or one armored division a turn across. when I landed in mid May of '44, I only had about 110 troop ships left and I was struggling to get enough units across, HQ's, and su's for a breakout. It took me almost two months to break out from around St. Buriec. I'd also tried a diversionary invasion at Calais, and it tied down several of his big divisions which helped with the breakout, but it killed my transport that I could use to ferry combat units across and my advance stalled and I got pushed out in Calais.
Most of what I have in Italy, I've had since spring of '44. It's too cost prohibitive to continue attacking thru the mountains, and the vp's aren't worth taking much past Florence to me. You can't sustain a push in Italy and France on the same turns. My last turn I pushed in both area's and the -47vp's are the result. I also had a para drop in France last turn.

And yes, I've pushed the Wehrmacht to nearly breaking but soon it will be mud and it won't matter. Even if I had a full on retreat at this point, I don't think he's making Germany / Berlin. Most of my units are 1-1's with a few pockets of strength. The italian front has actually held up pretty easily.

Thanks for sharing guys! Looks pretty grim from a WA perspective. [X(]

Out of curiosity (and a lot of speculation of course). If you had played a "perfect game" do you think you would have been able to reach Berlin in time?
And could we please get a screen of the VPs? [:)]

Yeah a VP chart of the entire game we can provide. At one point he had a positive amount of Vps -- near or over 300 I think.

It was at a peak of 274, and on turn 41 is when things started to go south. Nickle and dimed to death with casualties. I checked and turn 41 is actually the April 8, '44 turn. I was doing very limited fighting in Italy since I'd moved the bulk of my forces to invasion ports. The month of April I seem to be losing a lot of men just to shipping, as there was no significant combat going on from what I remember until around turn 49 when I invaded near St. Buriec.

I must be on the rag today, because I'm going to bring up one other item that I'm not understanding. For the past 4 turns the axis have lost 600, 700, 1000, and 1500 planes this turn, which comes to 3800 planes total. FOW not withstanding, where are all those planes coming from, and who the heck's flying them? They sure do have some accurate hit rates for the low quality they must have at this point.

Notice the green line, the constant attrition attack strategy I employed works. Just a little negative vp's every turn will kill an Allied player.

Meklore, I think those losses are over stated due to FOW, but what I have been doing with the LW since '44 as they were running out of pilots was to "add pilots" and I'd have constant planes in the air, just with low EXP. I would lose pilots left and right to operational losses, but it didn't matter as the sheer number was enough to blunt some attacks.

I've actually lost over 1400 points just from casualties. That's 600 points from a major victory just by itself, and I don't know what percentage I actually lost just to shipping them across water, but on several turns it was in the mid -20's with no attacks being made.

What would have happened if you had just stopped all offensive action on the ground when at peak VPs of 274? Is there any negative VPs for the WA if not taking certain cities or could you just have sat back and collected a small number of bombing VPs each turn? Possible achieving a draw?

You would still lose because in that scenario I would just send units east and hold the russians past May '45. Every turn past the historical end date I would get -100 VPs.
OR realizing that the allies aren't advancing, I would have all out attacks against them to rack up negative vps, AND hold the russians back.
The only path to winning for the allied player is taking berlin early.

Ah, didn“t know that! [:)]
EDIT: What if you play without the EF box?

I'm just not sure that the axis having 35k planes is correct. I'm just curious if these losses are excessive or not. More curiosity than an actual gripe. I really haven't worried about the LW since I got into northern Italy. As many planes as I killed in Italy prior to my invasion, I thought would have broke the LW's back, and they were never a big threat after that. A constant thorn.[&:]
