Germans winning 1943?!!

I've just been looking over the Blitzkrieg site and I noticed that one of the WiR games reported there was a Decisive Victory in Campaign '43 for the... Germans! It was Josan playing against Czerpak.

Is this guy great or what? I used to think the Axis player should be happy with a draw in '43. But he obviously either took Moscow, Leningrad and Gorki/ Stalingrad or made his opponent abandon any hope of holding them!

Incredible!

From a strictly "victory point" point of view, "Yes". But from an HISTORICAL point of view, I would think that the Axis player fighting the BEAR to a draw, would be a substantial victory for the AXIS, if viewed as the alternative to what actually happened, and in light of the dynamics of supply/equipment that either side benefits or suffers from as the scenario matures.

It also matters as to whether the Axis player was restricted to the HOUSE RULES or not. The "Finns Rule" and the "Axis Satellite Rule" have a significant effect on play, but as Ed says, "would be more historically accurate."

If the draw results in the Axis retaining anything more to the East than they ended up with (they ended up with nothing), then that would be significant as well.

Without a doubt, an Axis victory in this scenario is quite impressive, but in my opinion is also quite possible in the hands of a good player, which I understand Josan to be.

My very first e-mail game ever is currently raging in the '43 scenario with me as the Axis against the formidable DAVEWOLF!

Hey, think about it.

If Rael was to splice my DNA with that of SLAAKIE, and an offspring was produced, (I would have SLAAKIE "carry" the baby to term of course), "our" child would eventually probably start posting on this board.

He would present very entertaining, amusing, and well written posts, that have tremendously accurate historical/gaming opinions and perspectives, that would be quite thought provoking (my DNA), AND EVERYTHING WOULD BE IN CAPS! (his DNA).

 :p ;)

Hey, good people! This thread is not about cloning, poor grammar or slaaks! What's all this useless talk?

I was rather hoping Josan would tell us something about his great game so we could all learn something useful.:(

Sorry if we muck up your thread K62.

We're just having a little fun with eachother, that's all.

It happens on most threads.

Please don't be offended.

No disrespect intended.

Just remember that I'm the only one who offered any serious perspective at all regarding the 1943 scenario on your thread.
(You're the possessive type, aren't you; admit it.)

I would think that Josan has no intention of letting any of us know exactly how he did it.

But really K62....lighten up a little.

"Boys will be boys!"

Stef,

It's not that I'm possesive, but who would now post any serious stuff on this thread? They would get a dozen wise guys answering back!

How's your game with Dave going? I'm also in a '43 right now, but as Russian, it's more fun this way;)

Slaak(s?),

I don't even bother...

Sorry K62, here are some hints that I use for 43 campaign.

I disagree with SLAAKMAN and the game can be winned for the germans against skilled oponents as I consider Czerpak. Its was a standard 43 campaign with the usual house rules.

1.- First all think that the germans can win an attrition war even this year. No, I´m not crazy. I argued this too in the past with the 42 campaign. The russians can not burn happily their units. Play with this in mind and strike soviets always you can.

2.- Full use of the Luftwaffe against enemy airports. In a couple of turns you must destroy the Red Air Force or obligate them to go to Siberia. The Luftwaffe is very important ( and decisive) in this game. Once VVS is destroyed the core will go to the North and to the North for further missions. You must get profit every turn of every airgroup you have. Every time the reds pilots are in the sky hunt them. Interdict armies in movement and use the fighters even no air opposition. They add the load and cannon value.

3.- Manstein alternative in the south. All infantry will retreat behind the Dnieper and entrench. I place 3 powerful panzer korpses in front of the river (not behind), usually near of Poltava and at range of strike (but far of a possible soviet infantry attack).
Against a impetuous soviet commander you can destroy some armies. Against a cautious commander you will get the time to improve the Dnieper defenses and maybe, destroy some armies too. Use the panzers korpes wisely;)

4.- Evacuation of the units placed east of Kerch. This units will help the attack over Leningrad supported with infantry and artillery raised along the front and the core of the bombers. Leningrad can, and must fall, usually before winter arrives.

5.- I planned a major offensive... in the winter!!!! Obviously is difficult to find a soviet player that think his german opponent will do that.:D The surprise is achieved.
After a long summer of attrition the germans have more mobility than the russians to hit hard anywhere they want. The air supremacy was acquired in the summer.
The offensive will be in the sector more inactive from the begining of the game, the front of Moscow. More weaken in the winter when soviets usually have withdraw forces from here to reinforce other hot front lines.

The massive attack, will ALL forces available, can you get a chance of conquer Moscow. I managed to arrive to Gorki.

More next week:)

Sinceraly I hope this can help you.

Josan.

Josan.
Of course I'm interested Josan.

I just can't believe that you would be THAT helpful!

Now everyone will have the ability to win as the Axis in '43 like the mighty Josan!

Remind me not to give you any of my secret cooking recipes!

About the quote....Are you sure about that?

I ran some dummy tests on that fighter parameter because I noticed that you can set fighters, not just fighter/bombers to Interdict, and that the fighters carry a "load", which I found odd. It didn't seem to matter very much, if at all. Does it matter whether the fighters are set to Interdict, or will they still do that set to Escort?

Anyhow against Dave, I generally keep fighters around just for good measure.

Once again, thanks for the tips!
