I' m doing something wrong here...

I have reinstalled AE and went and loaded user scn. Guadalcanal_AEScen034_v01
I ran one turn and now I have blank boxes instead of unit art/ info. I just loaded
the zip file into the scn folder. I'm guessing I'm missing some art files.
Please explain the whole loading process and pretend I couldn't find my butt with both hands.
Thanks,
Clay

Ok, I figured out what I was doing wrong. Now, how do I fix the scrowl speed ? Mine is so
slow as to be almost un playable. My desktop rez is 1280 X 1024.
Thanks,
Clay

Scroll speed is in one of the screen you access in the main menu. I forget if it is "preferences" or "game options."

Nope, that ain't it. I have it set to zero. I rebuilt my computer and plenty of ram and a 2 gig card.
Windows 8.1. It's gotta be something silly.
Thanks anyway,
Clay

Add the deep color switch.

Negative, that was not it either. I played with the color switches, I reduced the DPI's and even ran it at the smallest display setting, nothing.
I checked my Laptop settings. The only thing different is it is running in " Windowed " mode. It is a wide screen Laptop. I do not see that option with my Windows 8.1 Desktop load.
Any good ideas ?
Thanks again,
Clay

Here are the switches that I use on a Windows 8/8.1 laptop.
"C:\Matrix Games\WITP AE - PBM #1\Beta2\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -altFont -archive -wd -deepColor -px1366 -py768 -fixedArt -noFire -SingleCpuOrders -cpu3
The "-SingleCpuOrders" was critical for me getting good responsiveness in orders mode.

I've been reading up in the tech forum on this switch crap. I have tried everything on adding to the shortcut target. Nothing. All I get is " invalid path ". It will not take anything I type in the target box.
Is the target the switch? I right click on shortcut. I go to properties. Shortcut and there is a target box. Is that it?
I dislike Windows 8.1
Thanks dude,
Clay

Here is an example pic of a proper shortcut (right-click on it, then click on 'properties'). If you are running the Beta software (which I do recommend), the 'target' will be in one path and the 'start in' a different path. To explain, the 'target' is telling Windows where to find the actual executable file (the program) that you want to run. That is where the switches go, BTW. The 'start in' is telling Windows to tell the program to look there as its starting place to find various files. Both settings have to be correct so that 1) Windows can find the program to run, and 2) the program can find things like scenario files, map files, etc. etc.

Notice that I have multiple installations of AE. I just made one installation and then copied the whole "War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition" folder tree several times so that I can use different ones for different PBM. I am showing you this so you can see why the name of the installation in the previous post is not "War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition".

Hello witpqs. This is what I typed in there and it worked... : )
"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -py1280 -py1024-skipVideo-deepColor -dd_sw
I'm sure why it worked, but I don't care
Thank you very much,
Clay

I had some issues with getting my command line switches to work, which I attributed to one of two things: (a) either I was a dumbass and adding the switch syntax to the "Update" (Quick Start) item in my Start Menus folder, or (b) it was getting confused because I already had a copied version of the game before I ever applied the beta patch.
The other slightly peculiar thing I noted was that, the instructions for the beta said quite explicitly to NOT put the switch syntax into the properties window of the desktop shortcut, but to use the Start Menu (Quick Start) menu. I did and it worked. Then the weird thing was that the Shortcut menu subsequently worked for making changes to the command line switches.

I'm pretty sure you should have a space between the end of one switch and dash proceeding the next switch.

Someone that knows how should replicate/move this to Tech section. This whole problem has bit me in the ass several times. With help and many hairs torn out I too got it fixed.

I've posted various versions of this info at least a dozen times, and other people have at other times!
