Hi there, I noted this text issue in ALL games of the serie I have installed:
- uncommon valor
- war in the pacific
- admiral edition
- war plan orange
it sorts out after some bases or other windows where opened (not at start)
Some times ago (when I last played one of these) all was fine.
My PC:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40Ghz
8 GB RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate
GeForce GTX 580 (347.88 driver)
Please Help.
Paul

The video memory is getting corrupted, it's an old bug in the engine. I have it happen on one of my computers, but not on the other.
It clears when I click and select an empty hex (a hex with no base or units), then change to another window and come back. I run in windowed mode. I recall it happening with the WitP family games back before I discovered windowed mode and rebooting the computer would reset the video memory if nothing else worked.

Paul,
try the following switch:
"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -fd -px1680 -py1050 -archive -altFont -deepColor -skipVideo -SingleCpuOrders
Adjust the screen resolution accordingly, drop the singlecpuorders; You can replace it with the multiple CPU switch, which
is described in the what's new pdf.

I get this bug quite often when I run WITP:AE in windowed mode and switch between the game and Windows. Also, if you ALT+TAB during the loading of the game itself or a saved game, the bug will appear once the turn is loaded.

I tried all your suggestions Guys.
The windowed mode is the only real solution ....
Very bad to run these games that way. The big maps filled a charm my wide-screen monitor.
No way to solve with a pach for all these great (and still in store) games?
Please.

Paul,
what about the other specs, e.g. monitor, resolution you are using, etc. Make sure your DPI is set to the default, 96. I run WITP AE on even a netbook (slow though) and no graphics issues. Use the additional switch –dd_sw, too.

Thanks Klink! You're my .... Oberst[&o]
After some experiments this solves "E:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -f -px1280 -py720 -cpu4 -skipVideo -altFont -deepColor -dd_sw
..... but this doesn't work with previous game of the serie UV, WITP, WPO. Any hints?
PS: my monitor is a SAMSUNG 1920 x 1080 max resolution.

Hi just to let you know I had the same problem and fixed it by adding command line switch -dd_sw. This ensures direct draw commands are handled by software.[;)]

It doesn't work because the capability was not put into those older games.
This thread details the command line switches which are possible for classical WITP.

The options are very limited.
