Favorite Terrain.

Ok, we all know that you can't get Hetzer out of the kitchen...or Hell as it seems to be called, either way you're getting cooked. But what is everyone playing game after game on?

I have to say I'm liking the Savannah tiles. The better covering fire (literally) makes it rather fun.

It just occured to me that though we've discussed everything else ad-nauseum the spotlight has never been shone all that brightly on the terrain.

I have to go with Savannah as well. It's the most interesting while still being easy to play on. Hell is definitely my second fav, with classic coming in third. Polar is fun if I don't want to worry about heat, or if I'm playing a newb.

Savannah is my fave too, but only because I find the tiles nicer. Differences to classic are very small, mainly reduced height differences.
Apart from that, I play in any type of battlefield.

BTW, battlefield types were renamed in WS. And Steffan is doing an awesome job in the 3D department! Maybe Larkin or Matrix will post a few more screenshots.

But..........can't a guy get even a little homesick?

obviously not :p

p.s. is savanah (forgive the misspelling if its misspelled im half asleep while typing this) a desert or is it something else?

EDIT: my system crashed and i lost most of my stuff ToS included and i never got past trying to get good titans for my pilots on classic :(

I've busted out my dictionary for you Fox.

Savanna or Savannah: A treeless plain or a grassland with scattered trees.

And the tiles seem to fit that really well. As Throg says they are some of the nicest tiles in the game. Excuse me though while I drool all over the thought of 3D Savannahs.

YAY for 3D!

Ok, I hope Larkin won't kill me for this, but there's something bugging me. Classic was first renamed to Moor, and it is now called Greenland. For the native english speakers out there (NO, I'm not one of them :) ), is this an acceptable term? Or would Woodland or Grassland or anything else be more suited? Suggestions?
How's this for a non-flamatory discussion? ;)

BTW, other battlefield types are now Dryland (Savannah), Iceland (Polar), Vulcano (Hell) and Wasteland (Dungeon).

Wff, arena types are not related to jock ranks. You can use rookies in any arena, with any titan. Just watch your heat in Hell, and avoid acid and lava. There's nothing else to it.

Moor isn't really right. It refers to marshland more than not. Though parts of the classic terrain are moorish.

Grassland isn't bad, but really conjures up the image of reams upon reams of plains.

Woodland is almost the same as Grassland, just replace 'plains' with 'trees'.

Greenland might be as close as you'd get, except for the one problem that Greenland is mostly Icy. (The country, right.)

So when it comes down to it. I don't know what you'd could rename it to. How about: Classic. Ha!

PS: volcano. Not vulcano.

That's why it was changed :)

Vulcano in here isn't intended to be volcano, but it was related to some storyline concept Eric had in mind. It doesn't fit all too well, does it?

Not unless various pointy-eared aliens are going to invade..... Then Vulcano could be their Secret Lair.

Or maybe it's a reference to the Roman God Vulcan who looked after Fire and Metalworking, which again almost fits.

But in any case it still looks funny to me.

As far as playability goes, I'd probably have to go with Savannah, too. But I really like how the dungeon looks, and the acid can be fun at times.

I'm not sure I care for all the battlefields being chenged to "lands" : Iceland, Dryland, etc. It sounds a little weaker than it used to. I don't know if that makes any sense. I greatly prefer Savannah to "Dryland" tho. Wasteland is ok for dungeon, and vulcano (vOlcano) is good replacement for hell, but Iceland instead of Polar? I don't mean to knock your naming skills, Larkin, because I'm sure I'm clueless as to your reasons (which might be really good reasons) for these names. I'm simply saying that out of context at least, they don't sound like ToS.

And classic should stay classic.

I could see using the --land names in some sort of campaign as they would more likely be place names rather than general land descriptions. Fair enough they may not be great names anyways, but it's still understandable. However, for random/single/whatever-you-want-to-call-Hotseat battles then the names like Savannah and Polar etc. seem alot nicer. (Yikes! Nicer. What a word.)

Iceland, fine. I'm not hip to it. But there you go. The real question is what to rename 'classic' to so that it 'fits' in. How about 'Continental'?

I was going to suggest other options as well, but as of going to press I can't think of any more. Which is sad. It must be too late. Yes. Late.

vulcano could be pretty nicely used because there is a titan named vulcanite (or something similar)

Lands...

Just to add to the fun...
Greenland (the island near Canada) is actually completely white and covered with snow and ice while Iceland (another island in northern Europe) is actually completely green because it is full of volcanoes that heat it up so lots of plants grow there!!!
I preferred the old names! ;)
Polar and Classic (which is a normal landscape) were very clear!

That's not the point, as the battlefields are not on earth, so it's got nothing to do with the actual countries. They are supposed to be general names.

I voted for svannah too. Dunno why it's a favorite though. Beats me! After savanah i'd say hell and polar, but i play all terrains.

As for the names, well not too important IMO.

well if you say something like "I kick everyones *** on vulcano(or whatever hell will be renamed to)" it sounds kinda more threatening than saying "I kick everyones *** on a certain level"

or something like that i dunno
