AK ship is in naval service with a larger offload capacity in small/hostile ports.
xAK is your standard cargo ship, some unload capacity but really for friendly port to port ops.
xxak , no clue unless you mean xakl. those are your local tramp steamers of dubious provenance "captained by half/breeds and crewed by lascars".

Just to add, AKs are your more militarized transports. xAKs are more your commercial shipping.

AKs are staffed by naval personnel and are under naval discipline. So are APs. Those ships with an "x" before them are staffed (crewed) by civilian merchant marine. A big difference with it comes to crew activity (saving the ship, etc.). Or at least that's my understanding for the game. Back then I don't believe there was anything like the "Military Sealift Command"...

I think I can explain to you the xxAK:
If you mouseover a port it will tell you the type of ships and their ammount.
So 2 light cruisers will read as 2 x CL, 2 AKs will read as 2 x AK.
And 2 xAKs will read as 2 x xAK.
Since the spacing is not clearly visible the impression is you are seing xxAK.

I definitely don't want to go on a xxAK then[:D]

Why not? Just sail them close together and keep one foot on each of them. [:'(]
