Seaplanes trapped at damaged base?

I don't think this is a bug, but it is probably something that ought to be changed. My Emily's are getting strafed and slowly picked off at Lae because the airfield is a wreck, but they are presumably in the water. What can I do besides withdraw them?

How much damage has the field sustained? I would withdraw them as they are useless otherwise.

HI Ross,
Thanks for the quick reply.
First, are the Emily's on the base or in the water? If they're in the water, how can they be affected by the base damage
Second, if I withdraw them, as I understand it the pilots go into a pool -- but the manual is silent on what happens to the planes. Its the planes I'm worried about, these are precious aircraft to be taken out by lowly Wirraways!

Mike,
I think Ross meant (hope I'm not putting words in his mouth) for you to transfer them to another base. If you can't because of airfield damage then IMHO this is a bug because the Emily and Mavis were pure flying boats. They could be placed on a trailer and towed up a ramp onto shore (usualy for major maintenance) but they could only take off and land on water.

Excessive damage to the airfield can void sea plane operations, just as in the case of normal aircraft is how its modeled. We may look at changing it for WitP but no promises.

Sea planes were not immune to raids on bases. In fact, they often too severe losses to such attacks. Assume that on the way to the airfield, some of the fighters or bombers dropped or strafed the seaplane area.

Hi Erik,
I have no problem with seaplanes getting strafed. I know that most of those at Tulagi were taken out, IIRC by the Yorktown just before Coral Sea. What is odd to me is that the survivors are trapped because the airstrip is damaged. How can you damage that seaplanes use?

Mike,
Sorry, I misunderstood your earlier post. The survivors should not be trapped because of base damage, unless their planes are also damaged. If this is happening, it's something we'll need to add to the to-do list, although at this point that probably means waiting for the back-fit from WitP. As sea planes can operate from non-base locations just fine, they certainly don't care if the base is fully operational as long as they have supplies and working planes.
Regards,
- Erik

No sweat,
I am extremely pleased to see that you'all are working so diligently to perfect what is already the best Pacific game out there.
