I have been eperimenting with a way to get up Italian Peninsular faster. I totally by-pasted Sicily, and invaded Northern Italy from Rimini in the east, and Pisa in the East. The units in Italy lose their effectivness very quickly and are merely waiting to Surrender.

A human player would be able to focus naval patrols over your temp ports that far north, and prevent supplies from getting to your units if you didn't have airbases close enough to provide support.
Did you bypass Sardinia and Corsica as well?
How many German divisions were you able to trap?
