I've opted for a Manila port strike instead of Pearl Harbour as this is BigBabes with it's reduced bomb effects that makes sinking those BB in Pearl even harder. Usually it's a 50/50 for me to go for Pearl but playing Babes I see no reason to do so and having KB where I need it is also a big pro vs the PH strike. That said, I start off with a mistake...

those bombers are set to airfield attack instead of bombing the port, due to being used to strike the airfield at start. Here again, this doesn't make any sense due to the halved bomb effects, all you get are some damaged aircraft on the ground, killing them in a reasonable number is near impossible as Japan so a port strike would have been the better choice. Oh well...

Surprise is on so seeing that many fighters is quite shocking and of course they also manage to attack the bombers... [8|]

so here's KB with the port strike, as you can see, a 250kg bomb hit on a sub doesn't even leave it as heavily damaged using the mod, hence it would have been so important to also have the Nells/Betties on port strike... silly me, this is just annoying... I bet we will see everything afloat leaving Manila tomorrow, most of the subs are going to survive...108 Zeroes on escort weren't enough to keep the Cap from going after the bombers, WTF!!!!!!!!!!! I've been hearing a lot about how effective your subs are from the other side over the years. I see some evidence of what you're doing here, but do you keep them stationary or on line or box patrols?

really? I've never seen my subs being really effective. To be honest, I usually do overally better than the Japanese real life (due to this being a game [:)]) but I think I never came close to achieve sub kills like the IJ achieved in real life. I mean, killing crippled CV/BB/CA yes, but sinking them without having damaged them first? No. [:(] Just take that example with Enterprise last turn, three attacks on the damn ship and all that is needed after the two torps that actually did hit and explode is a little paint I guess. Enterprise wasn't seen the turn after (no, she didn't sink) so she probably safely arrived at Pearl Harbour even though we had a dozen subs hunting her.

In this case, it was pure accident that the Enterprise TF ended up in that line of subs as I just ordered them home which resulted all of them being in a line. I use my subs like most players do, give them a patrol zone in areas I think I might find some shipping now and then and let them run around. In the end one has to be happy if the points for lost subs break even with the ships sunk by them. With the split tubes being implemented it became even harder as you miss 30-50% of the time even if you fire torps at freighters. Add in the duds (10% best case) and subs get pretty teethless if you care about ASW. Of course there's always that spectacular hit now and then but that happens mostly against me. [:D] I'm not criticizing split tubes here, just got the feeling that this lead to an even harder time for subs hitting something as they usually fire only two torps at anything below a cruiser, four torps at best at a destroyer but that's a waste 98 out of 100 times anyways.

100ft attack? Unfortunately I've never followed an AAR of Mr Kane so far (which will be good for this campaign though) so I have to get a feeling how the enemy is handling stuff... Cat and mouse play with fighters, attack heights and so on. I am usually trying to keep my game play at start reasonable and closer to reality, which is why I keep some bombers armed with bombs for example, usually not going in below 6000ft but this depends on how my opponent is handling stuff. No hr on bombing heights (except 4E Army bombers on naval) or sweep heights but I've already got that feeling that we will see most bombers very low and most if not all fighters at their ceiling... Not really exxagerating at the beginning but as soon as numbers are involved this is just a way trying to break the game with hundreds of bombers at 100ft and fighters around 35.000ft...

important base, important attack, we now have a base that can threaten the area around Java and all of Borneo, support is moving in already... waiting for KB to show up securing the area next turn as I've got no clue about the whereabouts of Force Z...

Recon of all Malayan bases showed immediate retreat of all Allied forces to Singapore which means refraining from going in and landing at Mersing on turn two might backflip now... [>:] to hinder the retreat South we have therefor ordered a para unit to blow up the rail lines between Temuloh and Malacca... Mr Kane isn't even keeping the bases covered for his retreat, seems like everything is set to strat movemenet heading to Singapore... two empty bases fall, Temuloh has exactly today two small units moving in coming from Khota Baru, the base was empty last turn which meant 135 miles between Singapore and the Northern Malayan bases was completely void of Allied troops... would land more paras in one go as I've already got another Yokosuka SNLF ready to jump but I've only got that single Tina unit which is the only transport able to reach Malaya... if I had more transports I would flood the bases with better terrain with airborne troops after receiving such an invitation...

first part of AVG shows up over Singapore, more fighters spotted further North so I also expect the rest of AVG coming South... if Kane really wants to fight it out over Singapore that's going to be really good news as I will very welcome this... I've got so many fighters that can tangle around here I could even accept a 1:1 kill rate and no doubt the kill rate will be better... the sooner the AVG is in action, the worse will be the skill of it's pilots... overall, the sooner I can engage Allied fighters the better as they've got no time to train then... the Zeroes sweep at 25.000ft which is already at least 5.000 ft higher than I'd like to see them but this game is turning into an everything goes except what is ruled out by hrs so what gives...

saying this as I had two and a halve dozen bombers from KB being shot down due to what I call a sh*tty way to create a Cap trap... never have a problem with Cap over a TF that actually got a real reason to be in the hex... KB's bombers are set to 20% nav search and I get about 50 "sightings" of HDML and other crap that was created at Singapore for just one purpose, drawing in a nav strike that faces his 100 fighters on Cap... in this case no strike was going in but I lose 80% of the bombers that were doing usual nav search at a low percentage... one wants to open Pandora's box? No problem. That's what I mean about getting a feeling for each other, Kane get's to know me, I get to know him, nobody is breaking a rule so all is fine and I have to applaud him for taking down two dozen highly skilled KB bomber crews that can never be replaced at such a quality, so well done... unfortunately I didn't invade Mersing on turn one and maximize all my efforts that I could on turn one but being some more turns into the game already I'll adjust accordingly as long as I'm not violating a rule...

that fighter sweep didn't do really well, had no dive and suffered soon from the enemy diving... AVG being set on 25.000ft means next stage for the Zeroes will be 29.000ft followed up by the Allied fighters to their ceiling... guess after five days we won't see a sweep below the sweeper's max alt until the end of the war... as I never touch R&D until I get a picture of how the game is likely to evolve we will of course focus fighter production on those models that can win the race to the stratosphere so in total we will "only" have the P-47 as beast that can go higher than the fighters we will focus on, other fighters that will be available in a timeframe around '44 that could go higher than IJ fighters are no match compared to the P-47 so I am not that unconfident at the moment... have twice faced P-47 as the IJ in a PBEM and while of course losing against them (estimate a 3:1 loss rate) both times there came the time when the Allied were slowly but steadily running out of the beasts... needless to say the game more or less gives the IJ a never ending stream of fighters (at the cost of other aspects) until Japan is bombed to dust...

sweep from KB shreds through the Cap... overall the figthers achieve a 3:1 kill rate so all is fine... AVG is already down the H81-A3 replacements so Kane has to either take them out of the fight or upgrade to P-40 and P-39 which aren't unlimited either so if he's really serious about fighting over Singapore we might get to the point where we actually drain all Allied fighters suitable for front line duty and to recover that is going to take quite a while but we'll see... got something like 250 highly skilled IJN fighter pilots and will be producing enough Zeroes to keep up with any losses... will also throw in Oscars at some point as the Oscar can definitely go higher than the Allied fighters here, the Zero might soon be losing the race to the stratosphere while probably still good enough to fight the lower skilled Allied fighters that might get the dive...

not sure what those high value freighters were doing at Singapore but I'd call that a worthy convoy to be placed under a CAP umbrella instead or plus that horde of silly no use HDML... those Dutch freighters are worth 15 vp each and are huge so whatever they did at Singapore is a mystery to me... no escorts, so it might have been a suicide run with supplies or more troops to Singapore, both of which I would very welcome and just can't imagine as that would be nothing but a waste... setting all Allied troops to strat move and retreat to Singapore on turn one, leaving 135 miles of the Peninsula without any cover resulted in the troops North of Kuala Lumpur being cut off already so all that is going to Singapore will be toast... even with the Northern troops reaching Singapore, one can't think of actually holding it and Kane is surely experienced enough to know this or does he think I'm really not able to bring enough to take Singapore? [&:] if I had to bet I'd say that's a rescue mission but no troops aboard the ships when the destroyers show up and the freighters were all docked so might have been unloading which wouldn't make any sense to me...

yeah, why did I know up front that this would be happening... I wanted to get rid of those HDML and other shitty shipping in and around Singapore as I can already see them charging towards KB to achieve a collission or something like that so I even calculated to lose one if not both destroyers to mines there... as it looks now, one is safe for sure and the other one has a fair chance to make it if not running into a sub... with the roughly 85 vp for the freighters it would have still ben worth it...

with some patch this was changed, lownav earlier was below 6000ft, now it seems 1000ft or so. Some of the bomber crews that were involved even increased a pt of navbmb in the attack at 2000ft. Don't ask me when this was changed or why, to me it doesn't make any sense at all, hence my comments on this. Why training pilots or using those highly skilled crews in aircraft that were designed for ship strikes when a couple of sh*tty pilots in sh*tty floatplanes can do better at 100ft completely untrained.

Forget about the cannon or MGs, it's all about the bombs so attacking at 100ft with reduced load still will get you more hits than bombing from reasonable heights. Bomb at min alt, use your fighters at max alt, that's how you get the best results. I remember Nemo being applauded for using a sh*tload of Lillies to night bomb airfields at 100ft... [8|] There is always a way to game the game and we are steering right into this in every aspect except what is house ruled.

Again, no rules are being violated so everything goes. I preferre it halve way reasonable but that path has been left and we are only in the first month of the war [:D] Putting up hrs for everything means not finding an opponent...

Are you using Symon's air fixes in this one? They help make sure some airframes don't operate well at high altitudes in site of the dive advantage. Most early Allied planes will just get creamed up high while the A6M and Oscar lines do pretty well up to 31k.
