1) How can I see a detailed unit explanation of an enemy unit? For my own unit I can go to purchase screen or select the unit and click the "i" button to see detailed info (characteristics and their explanation, range, etc). How can I see this info for enemy units?

2) How do I know in advance and how do I decide whether a unit I am purchasing will be part of core forces or not?

Re Q2: All units you purchase will join your core.

1) The only information you can get on an enemy unit is in the bottom UI by hovering the mouse cursor over it. If you disable "summarised unit stats" in the options menu it'll display the "full" stats display. You cannot review their traits at the moment.
