Hi all! Bought the game when it went on sale and I'm smitten.

I'm chugging along with a fairly large and utterly despicable Boskaran empire, but I noticed that at all of my major (and mature) spaceport hubs there are large numbers of private-sector mining ships sitting idle.

Why does this happen? Is it causing dead weight losses to my economy? Could it be that mining bases have displace mining ships, making them redundant?

They probably don't find anything useful to do.

The civilian ships are paid for by the civilian sector, and if you check you will probably notice that they are full of cash. So the best thing to hope for is that they pay for new ships (which you get as spaceport income), and sit idle by using no precious fuel

You probably got a good resource situation where they are not really needed...

Thanks for the information Bingeling. I let the game play itself out fully automated and noticed the same thing.
