Ok whats with the Arty moving off on its own accord? I place Arty in a position the blown the living daylights out of the French Hvy Cav, So after a long walk they get into position unlimber then re-limber and pull out to go off on their own to the start lines or where ever the want to go to.

It is difficult without have the context determine why a thing happen, the factors which determines this can be many . If you post a save (better if just before) it will be easier to evaluate and explain (you can set the autosave to a 1 minute and have the last 10 autosaves). The same for the cavalry charge case.

If they are exposed and unsupported by infantry/cav they will fall back.

Also if they have limited LOS they will 'look around' to see if there is a better spot nearby.
