Noticed I don't get orders from above except for scripted scenario stuff. Is it even implemented in the game?

Also, the scoring requirements are just for your unit right? Even if your side "wins", you lose if you don't score enough points.

Yes there's messages also for sandbox, they depend from the battle type and what role received your superior; if a corps is placed in reserve is very likely a divisions doens't receive orders until the reserve is called. This is a abstraction I should have a save to be more specific.

Scoring is for side, so if you play a big battle use high scores limits

So regarding AI in higher echelons, they will eventualy give me orders and I was just too impatient. Right?

Yes, as general rule (but things are complex) style of corps commanders, objectives number, battle type, divisions numbers inside a corps impacted on the orders.
