If I want to issue an order to a particular commander it's sometimes difficult as part of the name is off the page.
You can scroll down but not across.
Also in the full battle if I issue a command to a corps commander to move to a certain position and form a line only he moves but his units stay put.

The problem is that the names and full titles are just massive. We had to design these screens to look good at every monitor resolution. In our ACW games we had names like, 'Jeb Stuart' plus his rank, but how do you budget window-space for,

"Lieutenant-général baron Pierre David dit Edouard de Colbert-Chabanais"?

If we made it so they resized dynamically they would be tiny on small monitors and people would not be able to read them. We do not want multi-line entries or the menu would be huge. So what is the best solution? We could abbreviate everything - but then you get duplicate names, or you may not get the name they are known best as. Should,

"Lieutenant-général Jean-Baptiste Drouet Comte D'Erlon"

be known as Drouet or D'Erlon in the menu? Lots to think of but we are on it. If you cannot read a full name on the left due to its length, if you double click it you can read the full name on the message pane on the right.

In relation to the corps commander - we do not have any corps commander formations - they are too big and unwieldy. You have two options when moving them - either use the movement map (N key on the keyboard), a courier is spawned and all troops start moving, plus use the toolbar to give a second courier 'use roads' order - or else give the corps commander a target and stance. He will move his own troops and deploy his troops as he sees fit when he gets there. This is the best way for using a large formation.

The Dutch and Prussians are just as lengthy

Luitenant-Generaal Baron Hendrik George Baron de Perponcher-Sedlnitzky
Generalmajor Graf Wilhelm Ludwig Victor Henckel von Donnersmarck

and the British regiments have huge names,

1st/40th (the 2nd Somersetshire) Regiment of Foot "Fighting Fortieth"

how many names does one regiment need!

Wait. But I can still use the courier dialogue to set facing, stance, go to a location, etc. right? Just no formations. I plan to do mostly courier commands and limit the on map clicking.

I wish all command modes (courier, contex menu, info bar buttons) have the same capabilities.

may require some judicious editing by the team then. Perhaps drop the nicks. Have noticed the issue with truncated unit/commander names, even in reasonably hi res settings and it should be addressed at some stage, even if hardly a game stopper. Surprisingly, neatness of display is quite a crowd pleaser

cheers

We can look into adding a scroll bar, thanks for the feedback.

One option would be to use OOB ie 6th Corp Comd, 2nd Div Comd, 6th Corp Arty Comd, CO 23 Bn, 1st Bde Comd, 12th Bty CO etc etc? Simple short. Misses the personel approach ...

Another option would be to have a tree diagram and clickable units/commanders not historical but trying to think outside the box ;-)
