When are we likely to see the first patch. I have lost interest in play the sand box campaign, because I get too many scenarios with unbalanced OOBs Inf vs Calvary etc

The forces forces you are up against in the sandbox campaign has nothing to do with unit balancing, but rather how your enemy has split his forces up when trying to win the campaign. If you corner an enemy force weak in combined arms, take advantage of it it is not a bug.
