Naming Units - Hull Numbers

The option of naming units in OOBP is a good one. It allows the ability to add a little history to the game. In each campaign, I like to name my units, especially naval vessels, based on history of that specific battle. On the American side, a simple Internet search reveals a number of sites that reveal hull numbers for ships. However, for the Japanese side, this is more difficult., and I've resorted to the American approach to numbering my Japanese ships. Any suggestions on where I can find hull numbers for Japanese war ships would be appreciated.

World War 2 Armed Forces

Hers a good site that identifies units by country, that fought in the Second World War. It's good use is to name your core units in the game.

I am still looking for more information on the Imperial Japanese Navy, but it appears that hull numbers were used to denote the division of the ship and each ship in the division had the same hull number, I name them based on which ship was historically there. I will keep looking because I have wondered about that for a very long time.

Having some experience with Naval Engineering, ship construction starts with a number rather than a name in most nations. Most nations also have a system of naming their ships, although this system is abused ocassionally. I've found destroyer hull numbers through Wikipedia by searching on the term DD Kagero, etc. The link below is a good source for the names of Imperial Japanese Warships. For land units, including raider brigades and SNLF, the link in my previous post is a good site.
