8.1.8. Air Group Unit Aircra ft Model Upgrade/Downgrade and Swaps

Normally, an air group unit swap will involve the
same aircraft functional type, but there are some
exceptions and restrictions (for manual changes only)
as follows:
§§ Aircraft types are the same
§§ Tactical Bombers can switch to Fighter Bombers
§§ Fighter Bombers can switch to Tactical Bomber if the
group is trained as bombers

§§ Fighter Bombers can switch to Fighters if the group
is trained as fighters
§§ Fighters can switch to Fighter Bombers
§§ ZG groups can switch to Night Fighters and Fighter
Bombers
§§ JG groups cannot switch to the Bf110
§§ Groups with the Bf110 cannot switch to the Bf109
§§ US air group units other than Fighters, Fighter
Bombers, and Night Fighters cannot switch to an
aircraft model that has a different number of engines.

I want to swap these guys into some TACB. They are trained as bombers, but when I try to change aircraft only night fighters and fighter bombers are listed as choices.

Is this a bug, or did I miss some change/clarification to the rule?

This is the important sentence:

§§ ZG groups can switch to Night Fighters and Fighter
Bombers

The way I read it did not make that rule exclusionary (e.g. can only switch to Night Fighters and Fighter Bombers).
ZGs can indeed swap to NFs and FBs, while JGs can only swap to other FBs.

I just ran a test wherein I trained I.JG 11 as bombers. When they returned on turn 9 I tried to manually change their aircraft and FBs were my only option.

This is busted, or the rule needs to be updated to match the game.

I think it was disabled at some point.

Kind of stinks that in April of '44 I'm producing 24 Ju 87D-5s a turn, have over 400 in the pool (over 1000 TACBs in the pool, in fact) and exactly 1 unit on the map that can use them...

This is what I have in Mar. 44. I guess a few of these are withdrawn to the East.

Was disabled for german units - they have the Fw 190F series modeled as tac bombers.
Don't know why you have just one tac bomber unit left in your game.

I worded it poorly.
I have the Fw-190F and Fw-190G groups that start the game. I've been using them in fact successfully, but I'm still building them up in the pool, so I didn't switch them out for Ju-87s.

I'm piling Ju-87s in the pool (if memory serves NSGr.9 came into the game with Ju-87s and is my only unit that has them). I guess the EF box off doesn't burn them very fast over there.

Meanwhile, I'm short of planes in some of my fighter groups (already went through a round of disbanding and replacement about two months ago), and I can't switch them into TACBs as I expected.

It would seem the production limits would be sufficient to prevent folks from 'spamming' them, but I'm basically put in the arbitrary position of not being able to use pilots and planes because - well, just because...
