Rail Supply Issue

Has anyone had trouble with that new map created by J.Pritchard? I was playing WIR a couple of months ago, Im almost positive it was 3.2, so I dont believe it is the version of WiR.

Anyway, I am having some rail oddities as the soviets. Maybe it was intended, but they are many fully connected rail lines, particularly in the Ukraine and Causasus, that have supply levels of zero. Also, if any part of the rail line that runs north-south through Kharkov is captured, the rail lines further down will have a decreasing supply level even though another rail connection running east-west around Stalino merges farther down.

I have played the soviets through many times and havent noticed this before.

BTW- I really like the new map. I guess I need a few answers or any insight anyone would have.

Hello!

I also experienced some problems with the new map which is available as a download here in the forums. There is no supply in the Balkans, around the starting positions of the 6th German Army, 17th Germany Army and the German Panzergruppe in the South, and at several other locations on the map.

I think that I found two possible causes:
1) On the old Wir map, some rail lines must pass diagonally through the (city) hex or the supply line will be disrupted (e.g. Triest, Belgrad - i reworked that part of my map, and some hexes in Poland, i think).
2) Maybe there is some kind of problem with the graphic file which is used to create the map. If I remember that correctly, some icons were changed (mostly the river icons). Maybe there is some kind of hardcoding which requires a specific relationsship between the rail lines and the river crossings (or any other kind of unknown relation or prerequisite).
Another Note: I massively changed the map on the Balkans (rail, added more cities, reshaped the mountains and woods, moved the rivers, etc.). I deleted Triest from the city list (hope this won't backfire later when the Italians capitulate) and added in Zagreb (Agram) [not located on the original position]. To do this, i had to change the raillines from Italy into the Balkans (Belgrade). Thereby a big problem arose: The new raillines only had a supply level of 9 at the beginning of turn 1, but the hexes from which i deleted the old raillines still has a supply level of 10. I tried to resolve this by saving the game and by renaming the savegame into the necessary WIR files-No effect. Then i started the game normally with two human players and just ended the first round for both players. At the beginning of the second round, the supply level changed back to 10 at the new raillines and to 9 in the hexes in which I deleted the old raillines. That means i can play now ;) ;) :D :D .

Hope that helps a lil

PS: Maybe there are more experienced players here on the forums who can help more and better (what about the mapmaker himself, hmmm???).

Correction: I mean i can play on my own version of the original WIR map, not on the new map which is available here in the forums.

I am not sure about the details of Jeremy's map and the problems you are seeing, but I can help with the question about the map where supply levels do not match the other selfmade map but do slowly start to convert. 2 things, one of which may help with Jeremy's also. A map cannot be changed during the play of a scenario of supply will be all messed up and then slowly convert to correct levels. I don't know if this is happning in any of these questions but if so that can explain the problems.

For the second problem, here is what needs done. When working with a different map than normal, the scenario needs updated before play to match the map. To do this, open the scenario in scenario edit mode from the startup menu. Then go to Util - Set Map, which will update everything to match the map, including all supply levels. Then save it and the scenario will be fine at the start. Now that I think about it, that could even be the problem using Jeremy's map maybe, as each scenario needs to have this done beforehand to match the map or there will be problems with rail/supply. Maybe try this and then start it up again.

The big message is you and your opponent if playing PBEM must have the same map and the scenario must be set as above to match the map, and no changing maps during play.
