Please add scrolling at map edge.

Clicking on those little arrows was already obsolete back in 1995!

What? You can move the mouse to the map edge and it scrolls. What game are you talking about? [:D]

Only one specific point on the top edge 1mm wide

I would prefer if you could scroll the map by going to the edge of the screen with the mouse, rather than having to stop on the narrow band around the map. It's such a pain for me that I end up using the arrow keys instead.

No. Anywhere on the map edge.

Then the map would scroll when you didn't want it to.

Well, right now, sometimes it doesn't scroll when you want it to [:)]

I agree, it's kinda annoying as it is now. And it could be programmed to require a certain amount of "pressure" to the edge, in order to avoid accidental scrolling.

I don't agree, you would just have to get used to the difference.
SPWAW scrolls the map when the mouse hits the edge of the screen, you don't have to worry about stopping on a particular point. Given the choice, I would take the SPWAW method.

But then again, SPWAW runs full screen, not in a window. So that may make it more difficult to implement. SPWWII and SPMBT can both run full screen or in a window. Running in a window, you can't just slam the edge of the screen and have it work all the time, you have to move the mouse a little slower.

What I would really like to see is the mini map scrolling by itself when I scroll the main map, so that the visible part of the main map is always shown in the mini map. Again, this is how SPWAW works. To me that is more important than changing the main map scroll method. This would help me to not get lost on really big maps.

Maybe the solution is to give TOAW the option of running in full screen mode. That would be a big change from TOAWIII. I admit I was a bit surprised when I started playing TOAWIII, because so much of the interface is built into the normal Windows menu system.

When you wanted to access the pull down menus the map would scroll. When you wanted to access the control panel the map would scroll. When you wanted to access the micromap the map would scroll.

Also, note that you can drag the map as an alternative.

Now I see. It does scroll at any point on the edge. But the band is very thin and you need to place the mouse just so or it does nor scroll. This obviously needs improvement.

And I notice that as I move around the map the mini-map does not move with it. Obviously that too needs to be changed.

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of the micromap? Don't you want it to be in a different place than the main map? It's for navigating large distances.

This doesn't happen in SPWAW, and that game also has buttons to the right of the main map.
The scrolling is activated by the edge of the screen, not the edge of the map.
Anyway, I've gotten used to using the arrow keys, I don't think dragging the map would be an improvement.

Find attached an example. This is how most other wargmes work;

This is meant to represent a mini-map like the one in the bottom right corner of TOAW.

My screen view is represented by the rectangle in the middle.

- If I wish to move the screen just a little bit to the tight I move my cursor to the right side of the screen

- If I wish to move a long way to the right I would click on the approximate location on the mini map outside my screen view.

That's how it works in TOAW, too. Am I missing your point?

That's what you said first. I repeat, why would you want it to? Doesn't that defeat its purpose? If it followed you to the North Sea you would have a harder time getting back to the Ukraine. It's for big location changes. Small changes don't need it.

For me, the reason is that sometimes in my main map screen it is not clear to me where I am in the big picture of the whole scenario map. It is often confusing for me when the main map rectangle goes off the edge of the mini map. I must admit that for this reason, I tend to favor scenarios where the whole scenario map fits into the mini map in a single view. I almost never use the mini map for jumping around on the main map.

The screen shot above is a perfect example. The whole main map is filled uniformly with sea hexes. So where am I exactly in the North Sea? Just north of Germany? Just west from Norway? If I can't see the rectangle in the mini map then I don't know.

I was looking for Rome on the map. The label "North Sea" was my clever trick to fool you [:D]

If the mini map followed me around I could see other landmarks around and quickly get to Rome via the mini map.

That's the way it should be. This way you can quickly change locations on large maps. Indispensable in FitE. For example, you set the mini map for, say, Leningrad, then go with the ordinary map to, say, Gorky to check reinforcements, then, using the mini map quickly return to the Leningrad area... That's what it's for...

Yep - have to agree - right click in hte minimap to move the main map to the minimap location, and left click to center the main map to wherever you have the cursor on hte minimap - easy peasy
