In the game, currently dates read as: 7/9/50

However, is that 7th of September or July the 9th?

To reduce doubt, in every part of the game please use Microsoft Excel format: 9-Jul-50, 7-Sept-50

Excel has many formats - including 7/9/50!

the difference in reading that is generally British vs American - with Americans putting the month first, and others often putting the day first.

Writing the month in short format certainly does away with the confusion tho.

It's what the Australian Army used when I was in the CMF ('Citizen Military Forces' now the Army Reserve) in the mid 70's when I was at Uni, but that may have been US-NATO standardisation we picked up through Vietnam ... all of the comms equipment we used in the Signals Platoon was ex-Vietnam War stuff (mostly AN-PRC/25s while the Regs had more up to date 26s, but the CMF also had some horrible obsolescent sets with actual crystals that had to be constantly twiddled as they drifted off frequency ... [:@]) ... it's not uncommon in Business or Government today, for that matter.

No one here I know of uses the M/D/Y format unless they are funny looking furriners [:D]

You can change the date format now in TOAW III by editing the xxxGameText.xml file.

True. But you still have only numbers. There are only a few days of the year when there is no doubt about the date, 6/6, 7/7, etc.

Also true. But who uses more than one date format in order to be confused by it? I am D/M/Y and I always know that the date shown is D/M/Y. No confusion.

Also this is an international game. All the OP wants is a format that the game uses exclusively so there is no confusion regardless of where you live. It makes sense to have at least an abbreviation for the month to avoid any question concerning what number represents the month and what number represents the day. It's a reasonable request.

The OP is probably confused because he does not know that the date format can be changed already and thereby negating any confusion.

I have no objection whatsoever in having an abbreviation for the month and it is, indeed, a reasonable request.

All I am saying is that it is already possible to change the date format by editing the xxxGameText.xml.

Actually, the Situation Report already has the date in text, so it might be trivial.

[:D] Well paint me green and call me Gumby. The news summary has the month in text too. Yet expected reinforcements does not. But I imagine people can sort it out for themselves. Amazing how you stop seeing things after seeing them for years.

The scenario description in the scenario selection screen is also in text, so you should know what month it is before you start playing. I don't see this as a big issue.
