DWU Startup Issues

After installing Windows 10, I have been unable to start DWU. Running the game leads to the splash screen and then quits. I have done everything on these forums - running through the checklist and still no success. I have posted both my crash log and my DxDiag results.

I have also reinstalled both redistributables found in the DWU directory - with no success.

Really love this game - but can't play. Please help.

For some reason the forum is blocking my crash dump text -

Its basically "System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.DirectX.DirectSound"

Download this file from Microsoft:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... px?id=8109

Run and extract it to a folder of your choice. Open that folder and find a file named "DXSETUP.exe". Run and let it install a full version of DirectX9c.

Have you already tried disabling the intro movies in the startup.ini?

I initially tried that, as well as running the game in different resolutions and windowed mode. No success.

DxDiag reports my DirectSound version as "(Forum moderator blocked, check DXdiag file. Your forum moderator software mistakes version numbers for telephone numbers)" - is that relevant?

Also - it appears that I have 3 audio devices - as per Device Manager.

NVIDIA High Definition Audio
NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device
Realtek High Definition Audio

The only one that was recently added was the Realtek - when I upgraded to Windows 10 I also swapped out the MB/CPU/RAM

The realtek is probably on board the Mainboard. Disabling it if you are not using it should not hurt, at least.

There is probably a bios setting for it.

Also make sure, if you are using the Realtek onboard sound chip, to plug speakers/headphones to the front or rear of your PC.
