Sandbox Campaign Scripting vs StratAI

Really thinking about buying this one, and the quality of the sandbox campaign is a major selling point for me. I've read most of the posts about it, but have a couple questions:

1. I've read of fixed mission types - to what extent are missions battles from the main map that happen to naturally have a given strategic emphasis, and to what extent are they more "artificially" scripted?

2. Is the AI competent? Not awesome, but fairly competent against an average-somewhat above average (not genius-level) player?

3. How manageable / intuitive are controls and management in sandbox?

Am grateful for any feedback...

I'm part of the NSD team so this is info only, not opinion [;)]

1. There are no fixed mission types in the sandbox campaign, all you get is a fixed campaign goal, e.g. capture brussels, supremacy, etc. What happens is dynamic, depending on your maneuvers and the enemy's.
2. The campaign AI and battle AI are separate but very competent. Our AI is very highly regarded and will beat you regularly, particularly at high realism levels.
3. The sandbox campaign controls are simple, point, click, move. Click on a town for the stats/upgrade/training elements.
