Can't get PW to work on Thinkpad

I'm hoping someone with more computer skills than I can help me get PW to work on my IBM thinkpad. I'm Windows 2000, V5.

I own the original game and have played it on my PC for years and recently downloaded PW to my laptop. However, the messaging does not work, I see ship and plane graphic but name and number of units do not appear.

Tried to play and during battle, again number of units not listed nor casualites - including number of planes shot down/damaged, number of hits or ships sunk missing.

Lastly, the text in the 2 bottom boxes is mostly missing.

Visually, the game is much better than the original version but no good unless I get the text to work.

Can anyone help?

Chris

The great majority of problems running Pacific War are from not having enough DOS memory available. I'm sure you've got gobs of RAM, but all that counts is the free memory inside the sector that Wincows 2000 sets up to run DOS games. Unfortunately, the DOS drivers and other background programs are also loaded into this area, often reducing the standard 640K to below the minimum (about 590K) needed for trouble-free operation. Take a look at the "sticky" thread at the top of the forum, and the thread "New Computer", for some suggestions. (Note that Windows 2000 and XP handle DOS in virtually the same way; what works for one will work for the other.)
