[WAD] ESSMs not being illuminated

Hi,

I just bought the game last week and played through the Basic Warship Ops Training mission. Now, in the final part in which you're up against a Russian corvette, I decided to use the Stockdale's ESSMs (RIM-162A) in anti-Surface mode, so I set the right doctrine option and also enabled the Stockdale's illuminators. But even though the corvette is in range for the ESSMs and the AN/SPG-62, it is not illuminated. I attached the relevant log entries. Additionally, the weapon allocation screen reports the "no directors are able to illuminate this target".

Thanks in advance for your help!

Save file is available, but I'm not even allowed to post links since I just registered, so please drop me a PM with your email address.

Would be great if you could post a savegame for inspection :)

I thought I couldn't post attachments, but apparently I can indeed post attachments, but only in replies... anyway, here you are!

I'm not able to reproduce this in B739. If you experience this again, could you make sure you grab a savegame just prior to missile impact. Thanks!

Sorry, the problem persists. [:(]I attached a save file just before the impact. Additionally, Command reporter a fatal error whose exact circumstances I couldn't yet investigate. A screenshot is included.

The ESSMs are guided by the 62 radar which appears to have no coverage to the front of the DDG. Therefore the missiles have no illumination. Now whether the ESSMs should be guided by the SPY-1D is something I don't know. I am guessing this based on the db saying the 62 guides the ESSM and then checking the radar coverage.

OK, played with it some more. Its the rear quarter that is blind to the 62. I can't get the 62 to come on except in SAM mode. If a SAM is inbound, the 62 comes on for a while and the ESSMs hit. If no threat is inbound, the 62 won't illuminate the target for the ESSM. That is my uneducated eye looking at it.

Quite simply, the Nanuchka is jamming the hell out of you. (Notice the "JAMMER" emission from the ship contact and the "JAMMED" text on your destroyer's icon). Her two Wine Glass jammers are blanking out the reflected signal that the SPG-62 illuminator(s) need in order to guide the SM-2s.

To test/verify this, resume the scenario in ScenEdit mode, keep time frozen, and switch to the Nanuchka. Bring up the damage control window and damage/destroy the two Wine Glass units so that the crew cannot use them under any circumstance. Now switch to the US side, unfreeze and watch the SM-2s guide just fine.

Russian jammers STRONK [:D]

I was wondering about that but didn't now how to shut the jammers off. Never thought of crushing them.

Thanks for the clarification! I thought the message about the illuminators unable to do their work was about physical constraints like LOS, so I didn't expect jamming to be the issue. Lesson learned about Russian jammers! [:)]

What about the crash (post #6) though? I attached the screenshot again. (The error message say: "An element with the same key has already been added.")

PS: I wonder what jamming has to do with wine glasses? [:D]
