D-Days in the Pacific

One of the things that disappoints me about the USMC Long Campaign is the fact that as the island war starts in 1943, the Japanese AI in defense never changes its strategy: it always stacks up troops to defend the water's edge. It DOES sometimes defend in depth, with mutually supporting bunkers and caves, but I'd like to see this more as the campaign shifts into amphibious assults in 1944 and 1945.
