OK, I've played this game for years and have gotten hours of enjoyment, frustration and fun out of it. But, quite frankly, I'm a little tired of WW 2. I thought I'd broaden my horizons a bit and check out the Civil War. I've been browsing through the lists of CW games and want to know if anybody has done anything in this area and what game they might recommend.

I'm playing AGEOD's Civil War 2. You can probably find the original for a few US dollars online. If you like it, then CW2 is for you.

I've only played three computer games: Pacwar, War In Russia and I tried WitP. If Pacwar and War in Russia are a
one (in terms of complexity) and WitP is ten, where would you rank CW II?

I've heard that WitP takes longer to play than the actual War in the Pacific. CW2 is no where near that turgid. That said, CW2 is nothing like PacWar or WiR. The game has lots of settings that the player can choose for AI difficulty (called with respect, Athena), attrition and supply effects, as well as the ability of your Generals to follow your orders or occasionally take the historically accurate option of doing nothing. You can fine tune how your Divisions, Corps and Armies are formed from the regiment on up or just throw units together and have at it. The level of complexity is really your choice. The game offers great period music (that my wife enjoys while I play), lots of historical depth, a strong, accurate battle system that I appreciate (I'm retired Army) but does have a learning curve and a beautiful map. At the sesquicentennial, I decided to buy a great Civil War game and this was it for me.
