how do I get the game to play in a window? so I can reach my desktop if i need to.....

(I am running in 1024 by 768)

Not sure if you can get it to play in a window, but to reach your desk top just hold down the Alt key and then hit Tab.

In theory it's possible to play in windowed mode, by adding -w to the UV shortcut/pathname on your desktop. But for many people (including me), windowed mode is unstable or graphically glitchy. As the other poster said, ALT-TAB may be the way to go. It is for me.
