Screen blanks during combat

When I attack as the Germans in '43-45 PBEM, the game freezes and the screens blanks for a moment.

It could happened if CPU gets busy so it stops rendering map art. In any case save is needed to see when it exactly it happens.

I get that occasionally. It usually finishes what it is doing and comes back. I have noticed that my combats seem to be taking longer. Not sure if it is the weather as it has become September and it is rainy and light mud.
Especially when I attack a fortified city. The combat can take over a minute. Paris I can understand, the troops were probably 'fratinizing'...but Lorient?
