Yes, you are right. Good catch. I don't know how that happened. [:@]

Will be fixed in the next patch, of course. [edit: maybe, maybe not; see below]

Hmm, it seems to be an Extreme FOW thing. The Disrupted highlight is working fine, with Extreme FOW toggled OFF.

Now, I'm not necessarily justifying this. We'll have to discuss, and I'll have to think about, whether or not we want to consider this WAD.

But for now, know that the Disrupted highlight is working, just not in Extreme FOW mode.

After all, Extreme FOW really is ... extreme! [:D]

thanks for looking. I think i should know if my units are disrupted no matter the FOW. No problem if you don't want to show the enemy units that are disrupted due to extreme FOW.

As I recall from when I was coding this, hiding the enemy disrupted units -- that was exactly my intent.

What I don't quite recall now is whether, in my exuberance and enthusiasm for taking Extreme FOW to the max, I decided to hide friendly disrupts as well. (Note: You can still, unit by unit, determine disrupted friendlies in the Unit Box, of course.)

But yeah, it's not out of the question that one should know, and readily see, disrupted friendlies.

it would save time rather than having to go unit by unit to check, makes no sense to have it on the unit ID but no highlight.

Will likely be fixed, become the new WAD, in ME 1.01.

Berto,

I'm not quite sure I share your exuberance for taking extreme FOW to the max. I'm good with the new LOS configuration; I've never understood how someone would think that you should be able to see LOS from a spot that doesn't have friendly troops.

What I don't have a clue about is why info isn't available in the Damage Report about friendly unit losses or disruptions. It seems to me that friendly losses, although not immediately available to the CO, would be readily apparent to the troops on the line. As such, it's shown when you select the unit; now it's just another step that has to be taken and can be a time consuming step when playing a game with numerous units.

My greater frustration has been the removal of damage reports on enemy troops. Certainly, in real life combat, the troops might not immediately know the exact nature and number of casualties. I get that. My concern is, again, that the information is available, either through the Strength Report (for losses), or through the Unit Menu (for disruptions). Getting a generic "unknown effects vs. unknown units" in the Damage Report window just takes additional time away from playing the game while having to search to see if fire has had any effect. And, it has introduced a level of bookkeeping now that I have to constantly check the Strength Report to determine whether combat has been effective or not. I hope that some additional thought is given to reintroducing enemy combat damage to the Damage Report... or at least, through an Optional Rule.

Computer gaming has greatly enhanced FOW possibilities. But, in the end, it's still a game... and as such, it's something I do for enjoyment. Over the years, I've spent a great deal of money on the Combat Mission series, but I've recently taken the games off of my computer because of I've tired of the tedium of checking LOS possibilities, plotting movements and then rechecking LOS. It had reached the point where, even in a smaller scenarios, it was taking me one - two hours to play a single minute of game action. The game was no longer fun.

I've been playing the Campaign Series since the days of EF II. It has always been on my computer(s) since the first time I played it. The reason it has stayed is because it's fun and it doesn't take me a month or more to finish a scenario or a campaign. My sense with ME is that, while I've really enjoyed some of the new features ("From Russia with Love" might have been the most fun I've had in CS against the AI), a bit of that pleasure has been diminished by the necessity of stopping to check after every "shot" to see if my fire has caused any damage.

I don't recall exactly where I read this, but I thought I saw something that said that some thought was being given to removing access to the Strength Report during games under Extreme Fog of War. Personally, I hope this doesn't happen... for this game player, its one of the ways to gauge my success or failure. I also understand that some players might enjoy the extra uncertainty of extremely extreme fog-of-war, but for me, I envision only additional frustration... something I certainly don't need in a game when I get enough each day at work. Please don't allow your exuberance to take the enjoyment out of this game.
