It bugs me a bit that when left-clicking to scroll the unit list where I click acts as unit select. Perhaps we could right-click to scroll instead, or use the mouse wheel.

Or is there someplace I can click that doesn't select a unit? Can't seem to find one.

There doesn't seem to be. We'll see if we can implement something for v1.01.
