I've been trying to decide whether to buy this title. One hold up for me is that I bought Squad Battles Winter War and just didn't care for it. Is the play in this title similar or would it be quite a bit different?

Personally, I never liked the Squad Battles games myself. This game is more Platoon, Company, Battalion based and to me less clunkier. Sure someone will hit me on that but I prefer this game (and it's predecessor's) over Squad Battles. Don't get me wrong I have almost everything else (WWII and Modern) John Tiller produced and love them, just never warmed up to Squad Battles. Viva La Difference!

I find that Squad Battles and the Campaign Series games can be a bit tedious to play against the A.I. Especially larger scenarios. The turn resolution can be tedious.

You can speed up the AI turns in Squad Battles but not in the Campaign Series. There are work arounds however but I wish there was a fast AI option other that animation speed.

The games are at a different scale, Squad Battles is Squad size and the Campaign series is at platoon level. I think you would find the gameplay very similar. The Campaign Series graphics are much better in my opinion.

HOWEVER; Otherwise these games are excellent and really shine in PBEM. That is why they are always on my hard drive. If you have not tried Squad Battles PBEM then PM me if you would like to try. You will find playing a person makes a big difference. The Campaign series is excellent for PBEM. I have them all and have been enjoying them since 1997.

Panzer/Modern Campaigns? Yes you can, there is a "Fast A/I Mode" I use it all the time.

I was actually talking about this set of games. You know...... Campaign Series Middle East and The Matrix Edition JTCS [;)] [:)]
