Securing the northern flank

Hi,
first I wanna state that I love this game and after some battles against AI I clearly prefer now playing this interesting campaign with my Buddy.
What I realized during playing case blue (short) campaign is, that northern flank Setting is not realistic. In history, main part of sovjet troops where located in centre of eastern front around moscow in 1942. In our game, Germans are doing very good Progress, crossed the don river and are already Close before Saratov.
My complain is, that in reality a significant amount of troops would have to secure the northern flank. From some board games I know some rules which state that with Progress of x hexes an amount of xxx troops have to be removed from game.
Would that be possible to integrate into this campaign? What do other Players think about that issue?
Now I am moving with ALL of my infantery to the east as I don't Stretch my frontline on THIS map w/o russian central front. In reality I would have a huuuge flank in the North which I would have to protect.
