Hi
I don't have the game yet and would it be fine to just buy this stand alone? I was wondering how difficult to play since I am mostly a land player.

Well, as with most wargames there is a steep learning curve but there are also some excellent tutorials to follow and a lot of gameplay videos are available on YouTube so don't be afraid to buy. At least you will not have to deal with morale and supply issues as is the case with most modern land games.

land player here too. very steep learning curve but plenty of tutorials and plenty of help if you are willing to
ferret about...top shelf sim/game that demands a lot of attention. superbly supported by a wonderful group of
people.

You know, from my point of view, Northern Inferno as a standalone expansion is a really smart move. I've been intrigued by CMANO on and off for a while, but have to admit to being put off by the price. Having kids, a mortgage, bills to pay etc., I never really got close to justifying (to myself) spending big on the game.
When I saw the price of NI however, temptation prevailed and I took the plunge. Having spent the last few days tinkering and exploring, it looks like the 13 quid spent will be quite enough to keep me occupied for months [:)]
In short, NI has allowed me to access an otherwise prohibitively expensive experience. I'm pretty sure I won't be the only such person out there.
Who knows, maybe the full game will be a future birthday present, now that I've had a chance to give its baby brother a spin.

Also you can do pretty fine by setting up missions and avoiding most of the micro management, which I find circumvents a lot of the learning curve issues.

Hah! What do ya know...further to my earlier post, Santa was good to me. Am now the proud, if slightly befuddled, owner of CMANO as well as NI [:)]
I haven't even found the surface of this 'game' yet, far less scratched it! Loving it though...makes Hearts of Iron seem like Shove Ha'penny.

Welcome to the last game you will ever play, and welcome to the forum.[:D]
This is hands down THE best warsim you will ever experience.
And when you have a question about this game, (and you probably will like the rest off us), you will experience the enormous amount of knowhow that are present at this forum.
Happy hunting
Søren

Hello,
To be fair with you I do not rate this simulation as expensive... You can play and experiment for years with this, thanks to the editor, an active community and the wonderful work of the devs. I agree, it's for sure the best warsim I tried so far. I bought mine in 2014 and learned so many things about naval warfare.

Soren, thank you for your kind welcome [:)] Yes, I suspect I will have the odd question about this monster...I'm finding the tutorials more challenging than most full-blown games! This is ultra-hardcore with a capital 'U'. I may have to play some Dwarf Fortress just for a little light relief...
Francesco, yes I fully agree. For what you get, this simulation is way, way more bang for your buck than most other games (above mentioned Dwarf Fortress aside...can't do much better than free [:)]) I only found trouble justifying the price to myself when I have kids, bills etc. That said, I've bought games in the past for a fraction of the cost, played them for a week, then uninstalled never to play again. Hence you could argue this game is bargain of the century. There, I've just eased my own guilt!
Nice to meet you both.
