Being Logistically Constrained

I've been playing around with small boats in the Persian Gulf, and the scenario runs for several days. Unfortunately, small boats don't have more than a day's worth of gas on them. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to possibly work around the problem?

Tried adding an AO in port or something like that?

You could also use LUA to remove the old one's add add new one's if necessary.

Long term goal for us is getting port logistics working

Having more advanced port mechanics in the game would be a plus. But as all game dev goes one has to pick it's battles. You can just work on anything and everything really.

I added an Iranian small boat tender which was already in the database this morning, but haven't had the chance to experiment with the game, yet. I wasn't sure if it would work because they didn't look like the typical UNREP ship. UNREP is important if you're planning to sail across the oceans for weeks or months. Land based logistics are important if you're fighting in your own back yard. It would definitely make longer scenarios more interesting, because there'd be some value to striking fuel storage areas, etc.

So... the other strategy you're suggesting is basically to say if one platform's fuel state gets below a certain threshold, I remove the unit and add a new one? I've only just started experimenting with LUA, and so far it's made me happy.

Another option if the small boats can be loaded onto a ship with divots, then load them onboard and then launch them and they should be refueled. I think that works

Based on CPLAN war histrory articles, in real combat, small boats rarely come back to harbor just for refueling and rearming, becasue enemy with big ships would try to intercept them after engagement near harbor, when they ran out of gas and ammo. So, they went out with supply ships of similar size, set up a secret forward staging area near some small (and best uninhabited) island, strike from the forward base. when everything is done, the PT boats remained in harbor went out for a sweep to clear the way for returning boats without gas and ammo, and the forward staging area is abondoned.

in history, CPLAN small boats survived more than a week in forward bases and hit ROC ships at suprise.
