Played it yesterday, Microsoft did an upgrade for Windows 7 today and now it won't start. Stops at Recharging reactors

Further, prior to the problem I was not using any Window 7 compatibility setting.   To get it to work I now have to set compatibility to Window 7.   This must have something to do with the new Microsoft update.

Chris H - thanks for the solution, I was all of a sudden having the same problem.

Same exact thing with me. It starts loading up the game and then the message pops up saying the game stopped working. I tried the entire troubleshoot with no luck. I use Windows 7 and was playing the game last night and it stopped working today.

Can I confirm, are you all running the Steam version of the game? I am only suffering the issue on the Steam version, with the Matrix version working as expected. The developer has been made aware of the issue and I am looking into it myself.

For now all those who are having issues please try running in Windows 7 compatability mode. You can run this by finding the folder where the game is installed (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Distant Worlds Universe) then right click on the file and go to "Properties". In the popup which appears please go to the "Compatability" tab and under "Run this program in compatability mode for:" select "Windows 7".

Matrix version with Windows 7 and setting Windows 7 compatibility in properties seems to have fixed it for me for the time being.

I am playing on the steam version with Windows 7. Changing the compatibility to Windows 7 seems to have worked for me and I am playing it right now!

Could you guys check if you have reissue the Windows update KB3097877?

Yes, but it was reissued on 12th November.

VPaulus, I received that patch from MS on the 11th and it caused problems yesterday. Chris H's suggestion helped get my DW:U working. Got the revised patch on the 12th but haven't reset my computer back. More excellent quality control from Microsoft.

Not Steam, I don't use it if I can possible avoid doing so.

Yes, two days after I reported it. This appears to have fixed the problem.
