I know there have been lots of threads about this previously but im having real issues getting ground support AD's working.

In the BI scenario ive assigned a single AD to strategic airforce to support british 8th army in Sicily. There is rain over the African airfields but none over sicily and yes, GS is switched on when im making attacks. Ive even tried assigning it at corp level but the planes still don't show.

On the screen where you choose what hq to support ive noticed that all the hqs are red. Is there something im missing here?

Looked at your save. You have single GS AD to support 8th BR Army. US HQs have no GS, so they appear red.

Another issue that GS is limited to 30 hexes. Attacking Catania place them out of this range.

I have created AD to support 15th AG by strategic AF. Attack on Tremini created ~100 GS plane strike.

So its the 30 hex limit that was catching me out then. I couldn't see that rule anywhere in the manual, is it even in there?

It looks as on old WITE limit which is still in the code, but could be missing from manual.

Wow...I had no idea there was a 30 hex limit on GS. In most cases it probably didn't matter, but I did notice when I invaded South France that those units had some difficulty getting GS. I assumed at the time it was because the miles were used up on the planes (and it was a far distance from Corsica).

Now that I count it out, my units were just inside and outside the 30 hex range which is why sometimes I would get it and some battles I wouldn't.
