Well, it's that time again....time for the Raider's to give everyone a "Sneak Peek" at our latest line of scenarios to be released shortly.
Here is a quick look at some of this month's new scenarios that will be available for your SPWAW enjoyment:

Scenario #1
"RANGERS IN THE NIGHT"
Sicily, July 15th, 1943 at dawn
USA vs. Italy

Coming from the landing beaches of Licata and on the road to Agrigento/Porto
Empedocle, Rangers were leading the way as usual.
They encountered a roadblock first, hold by few scattered Italian units and
easily overrun it. Shortly after tough, they found that a little hill
dominating the road to Porto Empedocle was held by stronger Italian forces
than those encountered before. The hill had to be taken, in order to let the
bulk of their troops travel through safely.

DEBALCE AT DOMPAIRE

Everywhere the Germans are being hammered by the Allied assault that pushes it way deeper into France with each passing day. Among the Allied forces pushing the German Army back towards the Rhine River are units of the Free French Army...fighting to liberate their homeland from 4 years of Nazi occupation.
In this scenario you play the part of Colonel Massu's armored combat group which has been ordered by General LeClerc, Commander of the French 2nd Armored Division, to cut off a German attempt to relieve an encircled PanzerGrenadier unit. You have a large amount of air support at your disposal...but you are up against some heavy firepower in the German relief force...and you also have to contend with the "Fog of War".

A SURPRISING RESCUE!
Yenangyaung, Burma, April 20, 1942
UK-China vs Japan

It's 1942 and you are stationed along the "Forgotten Front"...The China/Burma/India theater of operations. You are here to keep the Japanese from pushing any further westward, but that is a task that is easier said than done at times. The conditions are appalling, the enemy is determined and what is worse... communication and co-operation between the various Allied forces is less than desirable.
At Yenangyaung, the 1st Burma Division is in grave danger of being cut off by fierce Japanese attacks...you must take command of the situation and give them a chance to withdraw before they are cut off and smashed into surrender. Can you accomplish this task with the forces at your disposal and a little help from "your friends"?


Scenario #4
NEW YEARS DAY FORAY
Around Cherkassy, Russia, January 1st, 1944

By January 1944 the Soviets were in, some places, less than 25 miles from the old 1939 Polish Frontier. Their winter offensive had pushed the Germans and what was left of their Balkan Allies across much of the vast expanses of the Ukraine, back towards the old Polish and Romanian borders.
Everywhere units scurried about, fighting rear guard actions before withdrawing to escape the Soviet "noose". From time to time some of the slower moving units didn't make it...and in some cases local counter-attacks were mounted to free these pockets before the Russians could re-inforce their "pincer arms". In this is a semi-historical battle, you are in command of a small German detachment that has been ordered to punch a hole through to a Romanian unit that has been cut off by the Russian advance...and hold the "door open" while they retreat back to friendly lines.

It had been several days since the shelling had started and Lt Col Brandt was getting very angry about the constant harrassing fire around his regimental headquarters. Finally he had had enough. He asked his adjuntant, Capt Kiesel, to send a patrol out to destroy the mortar squad and reconnoiter the Russian positions in front of his regiment.

Kiesel phoned Lt Meyer and told him to have Steiner's reconnaissance platoon infiltrate the Soviet lines and to destroy the mortars firing at the regimental headquarters as well as check on the dispositions of the enemy in front of the regiment.

Historical version:

World War Two is coming to an end, not only in Europe but in the Pacific and Far East, too. General McArthur has maintained his promise to come back: Americans are landed in the Philippines and are now on their way to mop up Japanese resistance in Luzon, archipelago's biggest island. The dark days of the Bataan Death March are far away now but not forgotten, as many of the protagonists of that hellish march are still lying in some prisons on the island.**

As a paradox, these men's lives are more in danger now than before, because intelligence information indicates that Japanese don't want to leave alive any eywitnesses of their atrocities.**

Cabanatuan prison camp is on the American route of advance and the 513 Bataan survivors still trapped there are in clear and present danger. For this reason the 6th Army HQ decided to risk for a relief mission deep in enemy territory, and to reach the goal the choice felled on Colonel Mucci's 6th Rangers Battalion.**

After only two days of preparation, given the urgency of the matter, and a 20 mile trip in enemy territory, 121 Rangers reached the barrio (village) of Platero, 2 miles away from the objective. Here they were joined by two Alamo Scouts teams, who provided the necessary intelligence on the prison and surrounding areas, and by elements of Filipino guerrillas lead by Captain Pajota,for support.**

At 2000 hours, January 30, under a full moon sky ,all the units were in their jump off positions: "C" Company in front of the main gate ready to force it, free the prisoners and provide them cover, elements of 2nd platoon, "F" Company each of them facing their assigned targets, and Captain Pajota's guerrillas dig in near Cabu Creek, so to block the expected reaction of about 200 elite Japanese troops bivouacking there.**

The shot of Lieutenant Murphy, Commander of "F" Company, was the signal the operation had started: 30 minutes later everything was over. The mission was a complete success, to say the least. All the 513 prisoners were freed, some hundreds of guards and troops, either inside the prison and on Cabu Creek banks were killed and all this at the minimum cost of two dead: The 6th battalion surgeon hit by mortar shrapnel and a ranger killed by friendly fire.**

The action is still remembered as one of the best of Rangers history, and surely as Captain Pajota guerrillas' finest hour!**


What if version:

This fictional version, is based on the assumption that the operation would take place the day before of the historical one.
The original orders from 6th Army HQ was stating infact that the attack should begin on the 29th at dusk, but the alarming reports from both the Alamo Scouts men and the Filipino guerrillas, convinced Colonel Mucci to request and obtain a 24 hours delay.*
Infact, that night there was a strong concentration of enemy troops in the prison and on the east side of Cabu Creek, as well as a continuous flow of convoys of mixed units and vehicles loaded with all sorts of supplys and weapons, along the main road passing just in front of the prison; all these troops were retreating towards the mountains chains located in the Northeastern part of the Island, where to stand the last desperate defense.*
But, what if Mucci decided to stick with his initial planning, or the radio contact with HQ was not established, or the HQ refused to authorize the delay of the raid?*
Well, just play this scenario and you'll discover it!***

If you mean Crosby, he was a crooner who preceded Sinatra somewhat, with an entirely different approach to the vocal art than Ol' Blue Eyes. Bob Hope was good at one liners and apparently refuses to die. I've said that the "Road to Kharkov" is a road picture I must have missed, but the reference fell flat amongst the youngsters.
