Feel free to turn on the metrics setting

Hi everybody,

First of all thanks for all the postive feedback. It is truly a special gift to a designer to see a happy customer.

And also for the constructive criticisms. We are reading all threads and taking note.

One small request though. If you like to help improve the game in the future: please turn on the metrics flag in the 'PREFS' tab sheet.

When the app is not firewalled it will send us a quick update of a handful of core stats like the amount of Victory Points you conquered every 5 rounds.

I want to use this data in order to analyse and fine-tune the game balance in future patches.

If you already had it turned on: thanks!

And don't feel obliged. This post is just there to inform people who were not aware of the metrics flag.

Best wishes and happy gaming!
Vic

If you'd like to take a look at the use we are putting Metrics to follow this link to a couple of recent blog posts.

Metrics Parts 1 & 2

Cheers,
Cameron

If you like to help improve the game in the future: please turn on the metrics flag in the 'PREFS' tab sheet.

now you have bought it, help the developer and your self by making it better, suggestions and feedback is good, but this setting helps as much as anything, as we all play differently, so the more data Vic gets, the better he can make the AI, not that it's a push over atm either, i've not won as yet[:D][;)]

but had some interesting and fun games and enjoyed the time spent, so i'll also bump this thread[&o][&o][&o]

I guess someone should activate this AFTER he became familiar with the game?

What good information you will get if beginners do their first steps and stumpling around?

it will send us (developers) a quick update of a handful of core stats like the amount of Victory Points you conquered every 5 rounds.

^^ it all helps, as it doesn't kick in straight away, so any amount of feedback is better than none, we all used it in testing, but some user (me) forgot on all pc's that it was used on so not all info got sent, the more he gets, the better the AI will learn, so maybe each patch will improve it even more, so you get your bum kicked even harder[:D][;)] Jk btw as it wipes me most time in Dec or Jan anyway as it is[X(]

I remember one report I was looking at that showed in the report my units information and it gave the hex location. I tried to see if I click on the line and it would go to the unit. It didn't, however, I did scroll the map to the hex location.

Perhaps, a click on the line and the map would go to the unit while keeping the report up.

Just a thought

It might be informative for you to provide a way that we could send you this information for a game that we are abandoning/quitting/giving up.

How will you know if I never even reach the 5th turn?

the developers won't, as they won't get anything data wise, it's only after 5 turns / rounds, so if you play 6, they get one, if you play 4, they don't

Yes.. the idea of the metrics is to have a more objective mode of analysis than 'just' forum posts to adjust game balance and difficulty levels over the full play of a game.

I am getting in a lot of info and its very much appreciated.

Big thanks for sharing the metrics data!

Best wishes,
Vic

I've turned it on... would be interesting for us as players to know what the metrics are telling you Vic. How about a blog post every now and then with some of your findings?

Hi Chuck,

I would like to share some analysis for sure. I bet you i'll have a fair chance half the players will say i am dumbing down the game and the other half I am making it to hard. But I like the transparency anyway.

Its just at the moment I still see quite a high number of restarts after around round 5 or 10.

And as well a tendency of players to quit games that are not going in their favor.

Just mulling over how to interpret this sort of skewed data properly.

Best wishes,
Vic

I'm going to take a wild guess here and say that most people are playing Axis and you shouldn't be surprised at all the restarts.

There's a fairly steep learning curve and it took me 3 tries to get a decent game on normal (a near win, but not quite.) The logistics require practice, in order to understand how to leapfrog FSBs and get a feel for how far you can push those panzer groups. Ditto posture and refits. And most especially judging the effects of all the decisions.

There's a lot of stuff going on here.

The Soviet side can be mastered much more quickly. I'm already playing that on challenging/slow and think I can get a win there.
